The Georgetown Hoyas and the Villanova Wildcats meet Wednesday in Big East Tournament college basketball action from Madison Square Garden. Georgetown is sitting at 7-24 overall this year. The Hoyas lost to Creighton in their most recent game. As for Villanova, they finished the regular season at 16-15 following a loss to UConn on Saturday. Georgetown Hoyas
Georgetown kicked things off on a 6-18 run over their first 24 games of the year. The Hoyas went just 1-6 in their final seven games, falling to Providence, Marquette, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Providence again and Creighton in that time.
Last Wednesday in the Creighton game, the Hoyas were drilled 51-24 in the first half alone. Georgetown didn’t get any closer on a 48-35 second half and lost big 99-59. Amir Spears led the team on 21 points with four assists and three rebounds.
Villanova Wildcats
Over on the Villanova side, they managed an 11-13 run through their first 24 games of the year. The Wildcats finished off with a 5-2 stretch, taking wins over Seton Hall, Butler, Xavier, Creighton and Seton Hall again during that stretch.
In their last game Saturday versus UConn, the Wildcats were facing a 32-24 deficit going into the second half. Villanova was outscored 39-35 from there and lost 71-59. Justin Moore led the way on 17 points and Cam Whitmore added 14 points with five rebounds.

I’ll probably stay with Villanova. The Wildcats saw their three-game win streak snapped by UConn in their last game but they’ve still gone a nice 6-2 in their last eight outings. Villanova has been a mixed bag on the scoreboard, however they’re generally putting up some pretty good defensive efforts these days. These teams have met twice already, with Villanova taking both wins. The Wildcats managed a 73-57 road victory on January 4 and a much closer 77-73 affair at the Pavilion on January 16. Georgetown has only eclipsed 68 points once in their last five games (70), so a solid offensive effort from Villanova will probably do it here.
