The Marquette Golden Eagles and the Villanova Wildcats meet in college basketball action from the Finneran Pavilion on Wednesday night.
The Marquette Golden Eagles will look to build on their 73-72 win over Seton Hall to make it four straight wins for the Golden Eagles. Justin Lewis leads the Golden Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 15.3 PPG and 7.7 RPG while Darryl Morsell has 13.8 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Marquette so far this season. Tyler Kolek also leads Marquette in assists with a team-high 6.4 APG as well this season. As a team, Marquette is averaging 75.2 PPG on 45.1% shooting from the field, 34% from three and 72.2% from the foul line while allowing 70.3 PPG on 40.7% shooting from the field and 31.3% from three this season.
The Villanova Wildcats will try to add to their six-game win streak after an 82-42 rout of Butler last time out. Collin Gillespie leads the Wildcats in scoring with 17.1 PPG as well as in assists with 337 APG while Justin Moore has 15.8 PPG with 5.3 RPG and Jermaine Samuels has 10.3 PPG with a team-high 6.3 RPG to make up the trio of double-digit scorers for Villanova so far this season as the Wildcats’ top rebounder. Brandon Slater also has 9.3 PPG with 3.8 RPG while Caleb Daniels has 9.1 PPG with 3.7 RPG and Eric Dixon has 6.3 RPG as well on the year. As a team, Villanova’s averaging 73.1 PPG on 43.5% shooting from the field, 36.2% from three and 81.5% from the foul line while allowing 60.4 PPG on 39.8% shooting from the field and 29.8% from three this season.
Marquette is 4-0 Ats in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games while the over is 4-1-1 in their last 6 road games. Villanova is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 Wednesday games.
I get the allure of points with Marquette as the Golden Eagles are on a nice run, but Villanova’s established a take no prisoners mentality at home as they’ve been disposing of teams rather easily on home soil this season. Marquette’s had some luck against the good teams and have the benefit of playing some softer opponents during this win streak, so I’ll side with the Wildcats as Villanova is a whole new test for Marquette.
