The St. John’s Red Storm and the Villanova Wildcats meet Saturday in college basketball action from the Pavilion. St. John’s is sitting at 11-7 this year and coming off a win versus Seton Hall. As for Villanova, they’re currently 15-5 on the season. The Wildcats took out DePaul in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

St. John’s got off to a nice 8-2 start this year with losses to only Indiana and Kansas. It’s been a 3-5 run for the Red Storm since then. They’ve lost to Pitt, Providence, UConn, Creighton and Seton Hall with wins over DePaul, Georgetown and Seton Hall mixed in.

In Monday’s rematch versus Seton Hall, the Red Storm outscored the Pirates 46-36 in the first half and 38-27 in the second for a nice 84-63 blowout win. Posh Alexander topped the team with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists off the bench.

Over on the Villanova side, they hit a 7-4 start this year over the first 11 games. The Wildcats have since won eight of nine games. The wins have been versus Xavier, Seton Hall, Creighton, DePaul, Xavier, Butler, Georgetown and DePaul again.

On Tuesday versus DePaul, the Wildcats scored 35 points in the first half and 32 more from there in a 67-43 victory. Justin Moore was the top team scorer on 16 points and three boards. Collin Gillespie chipped in 14 points and two rebounds as well.

The Wildcats are 5-1 ATS in their last six at home and 7-2 ATS in their last nine overall. Villanova is 4-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games.

Meanwhile, the Storm are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 overall and 1-7 ATS in their last eight after a straight-up win. St. John’s is 0-5 ATS in their last five Saturday games.

PICK: I’m going to try St. John’s in this one. The Storm posted a nice victory over Seton Hall in their last outing. The 84 points were a great sign as well; St. John’s had scored just 124 combined over their previous pair. It’s been a sketchy 2-4 run over the last half-dozen games, but for the most part St. John’s has been competitive.

As for Villanova, they’ve been at 67 points or fewer in three of their last five, but the wins keep on coming. A lot of different things could happen in this one, but provided the Red Storm can get their offense working early on I think they’ll be okay.
