The Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Virginia Tech Hokies meet Tuesday in ACC Tournament college basketball action from Spectrum Center in Charlotte. Here’s a Virginia Tech vs. Wake Forest prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Virginia Tech vs. Wake Forest pick.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Betting Preview
Wake Forest opened the season on an 11-7 run through their first 18 games. Next came losses to SMU, Duke, Pitt, NC State, and Louisville, followed by wins over Georgia Tech, Stanford, and Clemson. The Deacons are 2-3 since then with losses to Virginia Tech, Boston College, and Virginia alongside wins over Syracuse and California. That makes for a 16-15 overall record this year.
In the matchup with Cal over the weekend, the Deacons were in trouble at the break, facing a 37-29 deficit on the scoreboard. Wake Forest woke up in the second half, though, posting a 51-36 run the rest of the way and finishing off the victory 80-73 on their home court. Leading the team in scoring was Juke Harris with 31 points, 15 rebounds, and three assists for a double-double.
Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Preview
Over on the Virginia Tech side, they were 15-5 over their first 20 games this year. The Hokies lost to Louisville, Duke, and NC State in the next five games, then hit a 1-3 run with losses to Florida State, Miami, and North Carolina. After a win over Boston College and a loss to Virginia, the Hokies are sitting at 19-12 over the course of 31 games this season so far.
Matched up against Virginia on Saturday, the Hokies were trailing by a pretty significant 41-25 margin as they sat in the locker room at the break. Virginia Tech came back on a 47-35 run in the second half but it wasn’t enough in an eventual loss of 76-72. Leading the team in scoring during the defeat was Ben Hammond with 21 points, five assists, five steals, and four rebounds over 35 minutes of work on the court.

Wake Forest vs Virginia Tech Prediction
I’ll take a stab at Wake Forest but you could argue it either way. The Deacons didn’t shoot great (41.1 percent) in their win over Cal this past weekend but held the Bears to just 35.6 percent on the other side. Wake Forest added a 40-29 rebounding advantage and a 28-22 edge in the paint as well. The Deacons are 2-1 in their last three games with 70 or more points scored in all of those (and 80 or more in the two wins).
Back on February 21, when these teams last met up, the Deacons took a pretty rough loss on the road, 82-63. In that one, Wake Forest shot just 37.7 percent from the field and 20 percent (6-of-30) from outside while giving up 50.8 percent on defense. The 32-29 rebounding deficit wasn’t awful though, nor was the 36-34 disadvantage in the paint. Wake Forest needs to elevate that shooting percentage in this rematch; if they can, I think they’ll be okay cover-wise.
