Boston College managed a 6-3 start over their first nine games, but they’ve only been able to win three games since then. After five straight defeats, the Eagles beat Clemson and Virginia Tech in a three-game stretch. Two losses later, Boston College beat Pittsburgh.
In the Pittsburgh game, the Eagles scored 31 points in the first half and 38 more in the second on the way to a 69-56 win. Leading the team was Makai Ashton-Langford with 21 points, and DeMarr Langford added 17 points with three assists.
Over on the Virginia side, they kicked off their year at 9-5 overall, but haven’t been able to win consecutive games since then. The Cavaliers are 3-4 in that time with losses to North Carolina, Wake Forest, North Carolina State and Notre Dame mixed in.
Matched up against Notre Dame on Saturday, the Cavaliers were outscored 34-27 in the first half. Virginia went on a 38-35 run from there but it wasn’t enough in a 69-65 loss. Jayden Gardner led the team with his 22 points and 10 rebounds during the defeat.
The Cavs are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 at home and 5-0 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss. The under is 4-0 in Virginia’s last four at home.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. The over is 5-2 in Boston College’s last seven road games.
PICK: I’m going to try Virginia here. Probably staying away, though; neither one of these teams has been all that reliable lately. In any case, Virginia has been relying on defense to carry them this season. The Cavs don’t hoist up a ton of points these days—they’ve hit 66 or fewer points in each of the last six games. Boston College is in something of the same boat; they’ve been below 70 points in each of their last five. This one should be a pretty competitive game, and I think the Cavaliers are slightly more apt to cover.
