The Dayton Flyers and the Virginia Cavaliers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Spectrum Center. Here’s a Virginia vs Dayton prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Virginia vs Dayton pick.
Dayton Flyers Betting Preview
The Flyers are looking pretty good overall this year; they’ve only got a couple of blemishes on the card. Dayton beat Canisius and UMBC in their first two games, then lost to Cincinnati. After wins versus Bethune-Cookman, Marquette, North Carolina Central and Georgetown in the next four games, the Flyers took another loss to BYU. In their last game Dayton recovered with a win over East Tennessee State, though. That gives the Flyers a 7-2 record across the first nine games of the season.
In the East Tennessee State game on Tuesday, the Flyers came out of the first half with an eight-point edge. Dayton kept it going from there on a 42-33 run and took the win in the end 88-71. Tops in scoring was De’Shayne Montgomery with 27 points, seven boards and three assists. Keonte Jones added 15 points with five rebounds and five assists, and Jordan Derkack had 14 points with five rebounds and five assists.
Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview
Over on the Virginia side, they only posted one loss in their first month of play. The Cavaliers kicked off the year with a five-game win streak, taking out Rider, North Carolina Central, Hampton, Marshall and Northwestern. Following their first loss of the season on November 23 versus Butler, the Cavaliers followed up with a blowout win over Queens University in their next outing. Over the first seven games Virginia managed a 6-1 record overall.
On Wednesday versus Texas, the Cavs were up 46-27 by the end of the first half. Virginia cruised on a 42-42 run the rest of the way and took the win 88-69. Leading the team in scoring was Chance Mallory with 16 points, three rebounds and three assists. Both Thijs De Ridder (six rebounds) and Johann Grunloh (five rebounds) contributed 15 points apiece for the Cavaliers in the win as well.

Virginia vs Dayton Prediction
I’ll take a stab on Dayton here. The Flyers did pretty well against a solid East Tennessee State team in their last outing, despite 15 turnovers and a pretty tepid 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from 3-point range. Dayton shot 54 percent from the field overall and hit 28-of-35 (80 percent) from the line. The Bucs’ 21 turnovers helped quite a bit though, turning into 14 steals for the Flyers in the double-digit win. Dayton is scoring very well this year; they’ve got 74 or more points in six straight games (a 5-1 run).
As for Virginia, they took care of a good Texas team at Moody Center pretty well in their last outing. The Cavaliers shot a nice 53.8 percent from the field in that one with 12-of-24 from outside and just six turnovers. Virginia has scored 73 or more points in every game so far this season, with a combined 182 in the last pair. They’ll be tough to keep pace with, but I think Dayton can keep relatively close if all goes well offensively for them.
