The Navy Midshipmen and the VMI Keydets meet Saturday in college basketball action from Cameron Hall. Navy is currently 5-2 overall. The Midshipmen are coming off a loss to Lipscomb. As for the Keydets, they’re 2-6 on the season. VMI lost to Presbyterian on Tuesday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Navy beat William & Mary and Princeton in their first two games this year before falling to Coppin State. The Midshipmen rebounded with wins over UC San Diego, Youngstown State and Mount St. Mary’s in the next trio.

On Wednesday versus Lipscomb, the Midshipmen took another loss. Navy posted 37 points in the first half and 40 more in the second during an 82-77 defeat. Top scorer Tyler Nelson doubled up on 20 points with 12 rebounds.

Over on the VMI side, they went just 1-5 over their first half-dozen games this year. The losses came versus Richmond, Davidson, Longwood, SIU Edwardsville and Fairleigh Dickinson. The Keydets managed a win over Regent VA in game seven.

VMI went back into the loss column in Tuesday’s matchup versus Presbyterian. The Keydets were down 42-37 at the break and scored just 20 more points in a 72-57 loss. Asher Woods led the team on 14 points and three assists.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Navy. The Midshipmen couldn’t quite keep up with a decent Lipscomb team in their last outing, but overall they haven’t done too badly this year so far. Navy has been scoring quite well overall; they’ve hit 68 or more points in every game this season. The good news for the Midshipmen in this matchup is that VMI has given up 72 or more points in five of their last six outings. Navy shouldn’t have a problem covering here if they’re hitting shots and playing to their capabilities.
