The Florida Gators and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons meet Wednesday in college basketball action from LJVM Coliseum. Florida lost to Baylor in a tough matchup during their last outing and fell to 4-2 overall. As for Wake Forest, they sit at .500 through six games after a win over Charleston Southern on Friday. Here’s our Florida vs Wake Forest prediction.
Florida Gators
The Gators lost just one of their first five games this year, a 73-70 result versus Virginia in game two. Outside of that, Florida took out Loyola MD, Florida A&M, Florida State and Pittsburgh in their first quintet. The Gators beat Pitt 86-71 thanks to 47.0 percent from the field and just eight turnovers but got out-hustled on the boards 46-37 (15-7 offensive).
In their latest matchup, Florida took on a tricky Baylor team. The Gators had a 41-41 tie going into the second half but couldn’t keep the pace in a 95-91 defeat. Leading the scoring was Riley Kugel with 25 points and nine boards. Tyrese Samuel added 23 points and five assists as well.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Over on the Demon Deacons’ side, they went just 2-3 over their first five games with wins over Elon and Towson. The losses otherwise came versus Georgia, Utah and LSU. Wake Forest posted a valiant effort versus the Tigers in the 86-80 overtime loss but got beaten on the glass 43-39 and coughed up 18 turnovers.
Wake Forest crawled back to .500 on the year with a win over Charleston Southern in their latest game. The Deacons were unexpectedly trailing 32-28 by the break, but responded on 43 more points in a 71-56 win. Cameron Hildreth was the team’s leading scorer on 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
ANDREW’S FREE WAKE FOREST VS FLORIDA PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Florida. The Gators stood tall against a pretty darn good (and undefeated) Baylor team in their last matchup, out-rebounding the Bears 38-33 (19-11 offensive) and shooting 44.9 percent from the field. Florida gave up 51.7 percent from the field on the other side though, along with 56.0 percent from 3-point range (14-of-25), which made it tough to keep pace. The Gators have hit 86 or more points in five of six games so far however, so we can expect a big total in this one.
As for Wake Forest, they started a little slow versus Charleston Southern in their last matchup but ended up shooting 43.8 percent overall in the comeback win. The Deacons wave hit 70 or more points in every game this year themselves, but they’ve also given up 77 or more in four of six games. Florida should have plenty of scoring opportunities on Wednesday.
