The Utah Valley Wolverines and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons meet Tuesday in college basketball action from LJVM Coliseum. Utah Valley is currently 2-1 and coming off a win over Northern Arizona. As for Wake Forest, they’re 2-0 and coming off a win over Georgia back on Friday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Utah Valley took on Utah State in their opener. The Wolverines scored just 28 points in the first half and lost that one 75-58, though. In game two against Western State, Utah Valley posted 51 second-half points to finish off a 91-64 win.
In their third outing of the season against Northern Arizona, the Wolverines had a pretty tight matchup for most of the game. Utah State was outscored 38-30 in the second half but hung on for the 73-69 win. Trey Woodbury led the scoring with 22 points and six assists.
Over on the Wake Forest side, their year began with a matchup versus Fairfield. The Deacons posted 32 points in the first half and 39 more from there in a 71-59 victory. Andrew Carr, Daivien Williamson and Cameron Hildreth each led the team with 14 points.
In game two versus Georgia, the Deacons had a great first half with a 41-22 advantage. Wake Forest had a nine-point deficit from there but still won 81-71. Williamson notched 24 points to lead the way, and Tyree Appleby posted 22 points as well.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Wake Forest. The Deacons are coming off a pretty solid game versus Georgia—especially in the first half. Wake ended up shooting 50.9 percent from the field in that matchup, along with 39 rebounds and 16 assists in a pretty well-rounded overall effort.
As for Utah Valley, they’ve got a couple of solid wins in their last two games. The Wolverines won’t match up very well here however so it’ll be tough for the team to stay in range. I like Wake Forest to run away with this one and cover.
