Northern Colorado started out the year on a nice 3-1 run, then hit losses to Texas, Cal Baptist, San Jose State and Colorado State. The Bears then beat Montana State, Montana and South Dakota before a loss to Arizona.
Back on Wednesday versus Arizona, the Bears were outscored 52-42 in the first half and 49-34 in the second during a 101-76 loss. Daylen Kountz topped the team on 33 points with four rebounds, and Matt Johnson added 18 points.
Over on the Washington State side, they hit a 5-0 run to kick off the year before a loss to Eastern Washington. The Cougars went 2-3 over the next five, beating Arizona State and Weber State alongside losses to USC, South Dakota State and New Mexico State.
Washington State had a strong 35-22 lead over New Mexico State at halftime in their last game, but ended up falling 64-61 after a bad second half. Michael Flowers led the team in scoring with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists.
The Cougars are 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight Saturday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss. Washington State is 1-5 ATS in their last six at home.
Meanwhile, the Bears are 36-16-1 ATS in their last 53 road games and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 Saturday games. The over is 4-0 in Northern Colorado’s last four Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to try Northern Colorado here. The Bears weren’t realistically going to keep up with Arizona in their last game, but they still put up a respectable 76 points with 47.5 percent shooting and 42.3 percent from 3-point range. Northern Colorado has hit 70 or more points in each of their last seven outings.
As for Washington State, they had a bad second half in their last game but they’ve scored well otherwise in their last trio of games. This should be a fairly high-scoring and fun matchup overall, and I like Northern Colorado a little better cover-wise.
