The Michigan Wolverines and the Washington Huskies meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Hec Edmundson Pavilion in Seattle. Here’s a Washington vs Michigan prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Washington vs Michigan pick.
Michigan Wolverines Betting Preview
The Wolverines opened the season on a great run, but took their first loss over the weekend. Michigan kicked things off with consecutive wins over Oakland, Wake Forest, TCU, Middle Tennessee, San Diego State, Auburn, Gonzaga, Rutgers, Villanova, Maryland, La Salle, McNeese, USC and Penn State for a nice 14-0 start. The Wolverines would take their inaugural defeat of the season back on Saturday versus Wisconsin though, spoiling their unbeaten campaign.
Over the weekend in the matchup with the Badgers, Michigan left the first half sporting a 38-37 edge. The Wolverines were outscored 54-50 in the second however, leading to a tough home loss 91-88 in the end. Elliot Cadeau topped the squad in the losing effort with 19 points, three rebounds and three assists, while Morez Johnson had 18 points with four rebounds and two assists. Yaxel Lendeborg added 14 points with six rebounds as well.
Washington Huskies Betting Preview
Over on the Huskies’ side, they opened the season on a nice 5-1 run with a lone loss to Baylor mixed in there. Washington would then lose to Colorado and UCLA before a 4-1 run that featured victories over USC, Southern Utah, San Diego and Utah alongside a loss to Seattle. After losses to Indiana and Purdue and a win over Ohio State, the Huskies have a 10-6 overall record in the books this year across their first 16 games.
Back on Sunday versus Ohio State, Washington was sitting in the locker room looking up at a two-point deficit at home 38-36. The Huskies got it going in the second though, hitting their stride on a 45-36 run on the way to an 81-74 win in the end. Tops in scoring was Zoom Diallo with 22 points, three assists and two rebounds. Hannes Steinbach added 21 points with nine rebounds and Bryson Tucker had 12 points with five boards and two assists in the winning effort for the Huskies.

- Michigan has lost the first half in three of its last four road games as a top-10 AP-ranked team against a non-AP-ranked team.
Why the Michigan Wolverines will win

- Washington has lost each of its last seven games against Top 5 AP-ranked opponents.
- Michigan has won the first half in each of its last 10 January games as a top-3 AP-ranked team.
Washington vs Michigan Prediction
I’ll stay with Michigan. The Wolverines need a good bounce-back effort on the road here, however, following their demoralizing first loss to Wisconsin over the weekend. In that defeat, Michigan shot 46.8 percent with a nice 22-of-24 (91.7 percent) from the line and a 27-25 rebounding edge. The 38-26 advantage on points in the paint and nine turnovers were both promising as well, but couldn’t overcome the 50 percent from the field and 45.5 percent (15-of-33) from 3-point range allowed on defense. Michigan is still scoring very well this year, with 74 or more points in all but one game so far.
As for Washington, they shot 50 percent from the field and 82.6 percent (19-of-23) from the line in their home win over Ohio State. The Huskies were out-rebounded 35-27, but had a 40-38 advantage in the paint and just seven turnovers along the way. Washington has scored 73 or more points in five straight games, a 3-2 run. The Huskies are going to have to keep that shooting percentage up in order to keep any kind of pace on an angry Michigan team here.
