The West Virginia Mountaineers won their 2nd straight game and improved to 5-1 on the season after defeating the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, 80-77, this past Friday. West Virginia trailed for much of the game, however, the defense was solid down the stretch and the Mountaineers were able to avoid the upset loss after a Taz Sherman jumper gave West Virginia the lead for good with 3:26 left in regulation. West Virginia shot 46.7% from the field & 21.7% from beyond the arc while allowing Eastern Kentucky to shoot 49.1% from the field & 48.3% from beyond the arc. West Virginia outrebounded Eastern Kentucky by a 34-33 margin and won the turnover battle by a 17-8 margin in the victory. Bellarmine has played a brutal schedule to start the season with games at Purdue, Gonzaga, & UCLA and I don’t think it gets much easier going on the road to take on a West Virginia defense which is once again great at forcing turnovers as the Mountaineers currently rank 3rd in turnover margin. Bellarmine was able to pull off an ATS victory vs. UCLA, however they did lose by 30+ against Purdue & Gonzaga and although West Virginia can struggle scoring the basketball if they don’t create turnovers, I think West Virginia is the far better team in this one and does enough on their home court to cover this large spread. Good Luck!
