The Kansas State Wildcats and the West Virginia Mountaineers meet Saturday in college basketball action from WVU Coliseum. Kansas State is fresh off a Wednesday game versus Oklahoma. The Wildcats ended up taking a 16-point win there. As for West Virginia, they’re sitting at 17-13 overall after a win versus Iowa State on Monday. Kansas State Wildcats

Kansas State managed an 18-4 run through their first 22 outings of the season. The Wildcats went a sketchy 4-3 over their next seven games however, falling to Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma among wins over TCU, Iowa State, Baylor and Oklahoma State.

On Wednesday matched up against Oklahoma, the Wildcats jumped out to a 34-25 halftime edge. Kansas State kept it rolling with a 51-44 second half and won 85-69. Nae’Qwan Tomlin was the team’s leading scorer on 19 points and five rebounds.

West Virginia Mountaineers

Over on the West Virginia side, they were 13-9 after 22 games this year. The Mountaineers have since gone 4-4 with wins over Oklahoma, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Iowa State again. The losses came versus Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech and Kansas.

In the Monday game versus Iowa State, West Virginia got off to a nice 35-27 halftime start. The Mountaineers had to scramble on a 42-37 second-half run but still won 72-69. Erik Stevenson was the team’s top scorer with 23 points.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with Kansas State in this one. You could make a case either way, though. The Wildcats are now on a four-game win streak, and they’ve scored 73 or more points in each of their last three outings. The last time these teams saw each other was back on New Year’s Eve in an 82-76 overtime win for the Wildcats at Bramlage Coliseum. Kansas State came back from a 32-21 halftime deficit in that one on the way to the victory. West Virginia is 2-1 in their last three outings and scoring well, so Kansas State is going to have to put the clamps down early in order to keep the Mountaineers in check. I think the Wildcats will pull it off but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a dominant West Virginia showing, either.
