In this article, we will formulate a West Virginia vs TCU Prediction for this college basketball game on Tuesday,  February 25th, at the WVU Coliseum. Let’s take a look at a West Virginia Mountaineers vs TCU Horned Frogs pick.

When these two teams faced each other in February, TCU won 65-60.

What a Down Year for TCU

No one really knew what to expect for TCU heading into the season, but they have been a major disappointment, and they are coming off another loss in the last game. TCU only scored 24 points in the first half against Cincinnati, and it only got worse in the second half. TCU shot 40.9 percent from the field but only 26.1 percent from deep. As bad as they have been at times, two games ago, they had their most impressive wins of the season against Texas Tech. They were up 36-28 at halftime, and they held on in the second half for a three-point victory.

TCU sits with a 15-12 record, but they have gone 2-7 away from home. Covering the spreads hasn’t been much better, sitting at 10-17. The defense for this squad has actually been fine; it’s been the lack of scoring that has let them down. They are shooting 42.19 percent from the field, which is 316th in the league. Noah Reynolds has been one of the only bright spots for the offense, averaging 12.7 points while shooting 44.1 percent from the field. Franke Collins was the third-leading scorer, but he has been out for a few months with a foot injury.

Why TCU Will Beat West Virginia

  • West Virginia has lost nine of its last 10 night games against Conference opponents.
  • TCU has won each of its last four night games against the Big 12 Conference.

Can’t Lose Game for West Virginia

West Virginia isn’t on the bubble yet, but a loss here might put them here. The last thing they want on their resume is a bad loss, and that’s exactly what this would qualify as. Two games ago against Cincinnati, WVU won 62-59, but in the last game against Texas Tech, the offense wasn’t nearly good enough. They scored only 51 points, and it’s going to be hard to win many games doing that. Over the last four games, West Virginia has only one total win.

West Virginia has a 16-11 record overall while going 14-12-1 against the spread. The Mountaineers offense is actually similar to TCU; it’s the defense that makes the difference. The Mountaineers are giving up only 64.5 points per game, 22nd in all of college basketball. This might not be “Press Virginia” anymore, but they are still a good defensive team. Javon Small has been the top offensive player, averaging 18.2 points, shooting 41.9 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from behind the three-point line.

Why West Virginia Will Beat TCU

  • The home team has won seven of the last eight games between TCU and West Virginia.
  • TCU has lost four of its last five road games against Conference opponents.
  • TCU has lost the first half in three of its last four road night games against Conference opponents.

West Virginia vs TCU Prediction

I have been impressed by West Virginia’s defense all season, and it will be much of the same here. When these two teams faced off early this season, it was TCU that came out on top, but it was a lower-scoring game overall.  With the home crowd behind them, West Virginia’s defense will be impressive again. TCU’s defense has already locked down West Virginia once this season, and this game will be similar. It will be a hard-fought defensive battle, and the under will cash.  This total should really be closer to 121 or 122.
