Toledo Rockets
The Rockets were able to win their first three games this year, but then took a series of losses to New Mexico, UC Irvine, Indiana State and George Mason. Toledo would then hit another small win streak over Oakland, Northern Iowa and Marshall before another loss to Vermont in game eleven.
Back on Wednesday versus Vermont, the Rockets were drilled 42-24 in the first half alone. Toledo didn’t get any closer in the end, eventually falling in a blowout result 86-60. Leading the team in the losing effort was Tyler Cochran with 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
West Virginia Mountaineers
Over on the Mountaineers’ side, they haven’t been able to win consecutive games all year yet. West Virginia has taken out Missouri State, Jacksonville State, Bellarmine and Drexel. Losses otherwise have come versus Monmouth, SMU, Virginia, St. John’s, Pittsburgh, UMass and Radford.
Matched up against Radford on Wednesday, the Mountaineers were down by one point going into the second half. West Virginia kept the pace on a 37-37 run from there and lost a tough one 66-65. RaeQuan Battle was the team’s leading scorer with 29 options, six rebounds and a steal.
ANDREW’S FREE TOLEDO VS WEST VIRGINIA PREDICTION
I’ll take a stab on West Virginia. Probably not touching this one, though. The Mountaineers are struggling mightily this year, and coming off another tough loss to Radford. In that one West Virginia went a dismal 4-of-21 (19 percent) from outside and got out-rebounded 46-38. The Mountaineers were good defensively otherwise (37.3 percent shooting allowed), but they’ve been able to do very little on the scoreboard lately with 66 or fewer points in three of the last four games. In this matchup, West Virginia is going to have to keep the pace steady while keeping Toledo from finding a shooting rhythm. It’s a coin flip whether or not they’ll pull it off.
