The Furman Paladins and the Western Carolina Catamounts meet Saturday in college basketball action from Ramsey Center. Furman is fresh off a Thursday matchup versus VMI. In that one the Paladins took a 23-point victory. As for Western Carolina, they’re coming off a Thursday game versus UNC Greensboro. The Catamounts ended up losing in a blowout. Furman went 4-2 over their first six games this year, beating North Greenville, Belmont, South Carolina and Tusculum. The Paladins hit a 5-2 run in their next seven with wins over App State, SC State, Winthrop, Stephen F. Austin and Anderson SC.

On Thursday versus VMI, the Paladins took a 33-21 advantage into the locker room. Furman scored another 52 points from there in a nice 85-62 blowout win. Marcus Foster topped the team with 23 points and eight rebounds.

Over on the Western Carolina side, they hit a 4-2 run in their first six as well, losing to only Georgia and Maryland. The Catamounts went 3-4 in the next seven games with losses to UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb, USC Upstate and Davidson.

In the Thursday game versus UNC Greensboro, the Catamounts were only down four points at the break. Western Carolina was drilled 38-17 in the second half and lost 72-47. Tyzhaun Claude led the way on 13 points with seven rebounds.

PICK: I’ll probably stay with Furman here. The Paladins are on a solid scoring run these days; they’ve hit 72 or more points in seven straight outings, going 5-2 in that time. Western Carolina has scored 75 or more in three of their last four, however prior to that the Catamounts had 64 or fewer points in four straight games. Furman is a pretty good team and should post a nice total in this one. I think the Paladins will cover without too much trouble.
