The Citadel Bulldogs and the Western Carolina Catamounts meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Ramsey Center. The Citadel is 8-12 on the season so far. The Bulldogs beat VMI in their last game. As for Western Carolina, they’re sitting at 11-10 after a loss to Samford on Saturday. The Citadel Bulldogs

The Citadel started out at 6-8 this year, beating Presbyterian, Morris, New Orleans, IUPUI, Charleston Southern and Chattanooga along the way. Since then the Bulldogs are 2-4 with wins over Western Carolina and VMI.

In the VMI game on Saturday, the Bulldogs were down 23-14 by halftime. The Citadel stormed back on a 46-29 run in the second half and took the comeback win 60-52. Austin Ash was the leading team scorer with 17 points.

Western Carolina Catamounts

Over on the Western Carolina side, they lost to Georgia, Maryland, UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb, USC Upstate, Davidson and UNCG in their first 14 games. The Catamounts are 4-3 in their last seven and coming off a loss to Samford.

Matched up against Samford on Saturday, the Catamounts were down 32-24 by halftime. Western Carolina managed 41 points in the second half but ended up losing 74-65. Vonterius Woolbright led the team on 18 points and six boards.

I’m going to take a stab on the Citadel here. Probably not touching it, though. The last time these teams met up on January 14 at McAlister Field House, the Bulldogs powered out a 65-61 win. The Citadel has only scored 120 combined points in the two games since then, so they’re going to need a big offensive push in this one. As for Western Carolina, they’re just 1-3 in their last four games and haven’t been scoring super well themselves. I like this one to be another close game, and I think if the Citadel plays well they can knock out the cover.
