The Akron Zips and the Western Michigan Broncos meet Tuesday in college basketball action from University Arena. Akron is sitting at 16-7 overall this year. The Zips lost to Kent State in their last game. As for Western Michigan, they’re currently 5-20 and coming off a win over Central Michigan. Akron started out the year at a sketchy 2-3 but the team hasn’t lost consecutive games since then. The Zips are 3-2 over their last five games. They’ve got wins over Miami OH (twice) and Northern Illinois between losses to Toledo and Kent State.
In the Kent State game on Friday, the Zips were down 30-25 by halftime. Akron fought back with a 39-36 run in the second but still fell 66-64. Enrique Freeman was the leading scorer on 21 points and 13 rebounds.
Over on the Western Michigan side, it’s certainly been a rough campaign. The Broncos began the year at 4-6, then hit a 14-game losing streak that stretched from December 20 to February 8. Western Michigan managed a win in their last game over Central Michigan, though.
In the matchup versus the Chippewas on Saturday, the Broncos hit a 47-24 edge by halftime and held on for the 77-63 victory. Lamar Norman was the leading contributor for Western Michigan with his 25 points and five rebounds.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Western Michigan. The Broncos are breathing a sigh of relief after their Saturday win, and they played well in that one. Western Michigan had a handful of close calls during that losing streak, with one of them being a 74-73 road loss to Akron on January 18. I like the Broncos to keep it going with another strong performance here and cover. Realistically I’m probably not going near it, though.
