Grand Canyon started out their year with a couple of wins. The first came in the opener against Montana State 60-54. The Antelopes rolled past SDCC 101-50 in game two but then took a 59-46 loss to Nevada.
In Friday’s game four, the Antelopes got back into the win column in a big way. Grand Canyon got off to a 42-15 lead by the break and kept it up for an 81-48 win. Rayshon Harrison led the team on 25 points and one rebound in 19 minutes.
Over on the Wichita State side, they didn’t have a ton of trouble with Arkansas State in their opener and powered out a 79-55 win. The Shockers had a first-half lead on Alcorn State in game two but eventually lost that one 66-57.
Back on Thursday versus Richmond, Wichita State entered the locker room at halftime up 28-19. The Shockers had to fight from there but eventually powered out a 56-53 win. Jaykqon Walton led the team with 20 points, and James Rojas had 15 points.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Grand Canyon. The Antelopes posted 42.4 percent shooting from the field against Grambling State in their last game and out-rebounded the opposition 49-35. Grand Canyon has a couple of scoring duds on the books so far this year but they’ve also hit 81 or more points in two of their last three. Wichita State is going to be a tricky opponent but I think Grand Canyon can pull off the cover.
