The Charleston Cougars and the William & Mary Tribe meet in college basketball action from the Kaplan Arena on Thursday night.
The Charleston Cougars will look to build on their 81-63 win over Northeastern last time out. John Meeks leads the Cougars in scoring with 15.5 PPG along with 5 RPG while Reyne Smith has 12.6 PPG and Brenden Tucker has 11.5 PPG this season. Dimitrius Underwood has 10.4 PPG with a team-high 6.7 RPG and 3.3 APG to lead the Cougars in rebounding and assists as well as capping off the group of double-digit scorers for Charleston so far this season. As a team, Charleston is averaging 78 PPG on 41.7% shooting from the field, 33.1% from three and 73.4% from the foul line while allowing 76.9 PPG on 45% shooting from the field and 33.8% from three this season.
The William & Mary Tribe will look to build on a 65-61 win over Elon in their last game. CBen Wight leads the Tribe in scoring and rebounding with 12 PPG and 6 RPG and Connor Kochera has 11.8 PPG with 4.9 RPG while Tyler Rice has a team-high 3.6 APG as well this season. As a team, William & Mary is averaging 65.5 PPG on 41.3% shooting from the field, 30.4% from three and 67.8% from the foul line while allowing 73.7 PPG on 45.7% shooting from the field and 32.7% from three this season.
Charleston is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a win while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400. William & Mary is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 13-6 in their last 19 games as a home underdog.
I get why one could be tempted with the points with the Tribe as a home underdog, but the issue I have with that is that the Tribe are still a team with just five wins on the year. Both teams are struggling defensively, and William & Mary nearly upset Charleston in the first meeting, but the Cougars have the far better offense and I look for the Cougars to get it right this time around. Give me the Cougars by double-digits so I’ll lay the points.
