The Elon Phoenix and the William & Mary Tribe meet Saturday in college basketball action from Kaplan Arena. This will be a rematch of Thursday’s game at Schar Center. Elon managed wins in two of their first three games this year, but they’ve been unable to string together consecutive victories since then. In their two previous games before Thursday’s matchup, the Phoenix had losses to Drexel and Delaware.
In the Thursday game versus William & Mary, Elon posted 30 points in the first half and 31 more from there in a 61-54 win. Michael Graham doubled up with 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Torrence Watson added 14 points with six boards.
Over on the William & Mary side, they’re in something of the same boat with victories this season. The Tribe have won consecutive outings just once thus far. William & Mary managed a January 22 win over Drexel, then fell in the next game to Charleston.
Matched up against Elon on Thursday, William & Mary couldn’t get much offense going with just 25 points in the first half during the loss. Ben Wight was the team’s leading scorer on 14 points, and Brandon Carroll doubled on 11 points with 10 boards.
The Tribe are 6-14-1 ATS in the last 21 at home and 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS win. William & Mary is 4-0 ATS in their last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix are 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and the under is 9-3 in their last 12 overall. The under is 18-6 in Elon’s last 24 road games.
PICK: I’m going to try William & Mary. Probably not touching this one, though; neither one of these teams has been all that reliable lately. In any case, the Tribe had generally been scoring well heading into Thursday’s 54-point dud. They’d hit 69 or more points in six straight prior to that. As for Elon, they’ve been at 66 points or fewer in five their last seven games. This rematch could go a lot of different ways, but I think the Tribe will flourish in the more familiar environment this time.
