The Towson Tigers and the William & Mary Tribe meet Monday in college basketball action from Kaplan Arena. Towson is 12-5 on the season so far. The Tigers are coming off a win versus Elon over the weekend. As for William & Mary, they’re 3-13 on the year and lost to James Madison in their last game. Towson went 9-5 over their first 14 games this season. The Tigers’ losses were to Monmouth, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Ohio State and Drexel. In the last three games, Towson has managed wins over Northeastern, Hofstra and Elon.
In the Elon matchup on Saturday, the Tigers were down 31-26 heading into the break. Towson went on a 33-23 comeback run from there to score the 59-54 win. Cameron Holden did the bulk of the offensive work on 24 points and four rebounds.
Over on the William & Mary side, they managed just one win in their first 13 games, a November 27 affair versus Mary Baldwin. After wins versus Hofstra and Northeastern, the Tribe lost again on Saturday to James Madison.
In the Dukes game over the weekend, William & Mary blew a 10-point halftime lead and lost in overtime 95-91. Yuri Covington was the Tribe’s leading scorer with 29 points and two steals. Covington was 9-of-12 from the field and 5-of-7 from 3-point range in the defeat.
The Tribe are 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 at home and 3-12 ATS in their last 15 overall. The under is 10-4 in William & Mary’s last 14 at home.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 8-1 ATS in the last nine road games and 12-3 ATS in the last 15 overall. The under is 4-1 in Towson’s last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Towson. The line is fairly thick though, so I’m not touching it. The Tigers were a bit sluggish offensively against a not-so-good Elon team in their last game, but to their credit Towson stuck out the win. The Tigers had previously scored 69 or more points in nine of their previous 10 games, and I think they’ll get back to a similar total here.
As for the Tribe, they’ve been playing better over their last three games but the OT loss on Saturday certainly has to sting. I like William & Mary to hang around for most of this matchup before Towson powers out the cover.
