Winthrop vs Campbell 1/10/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Campbell Camels and the Winthrop Eagles meet in college basketball action from the Winthrop Coliseum on Monday.

The Campbell Camels will look to bounce back from a 60-54 loss at the hands of UNC-Asheville in their last game. Cedric Henderson Jr. leads Campbell in scoring and rebounding with 11.8 PPG and 6.3 RPG while Jesus Carralero has 11.3 PPG with 5.1 RPG and a team-high 4.1 APG as well this season. Ricky Clemons has 10.7 PPG with 6.2 RPG to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for the Camels up to this point in the season while Jordan Whitfield has 9.3 PPG and Messiah Thompson also has 8.9 PPG as well this season. As a team, Campbell is averaging 66.5 PPG on 45.9% shooting from the field, 29.9% from three and 69.7% from the foul line while allowing 59.7 PPG on 40.8% shooting from the field and 33.2% from three this season.

The Winthrop Eagles will try to build on their 78-40 win over subdivision Converse last time out. D.J. Burns leads the Eagles in scoring with 17.2 PPG along with 5.1 RPG while Patrick Good has 11.7 PPG and Cory Hightower has 10.6 PPG with a team-high 5.7 RPG to lead the Eagles on the glass so far this season and to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Winthrop so far this season. Drew Buggs is also contributing a team-high 4.1 APG as well this season. As a team, Winthrop is averaging 77.7 PPG on 47.3% shooting from the field, 37.7% from three and 68.6% from the foul line while allowing 73.1 PPG on 44.3% shooting from the field and 34.5ol% from three this season.

I get the allure of backing Campbell here as the Camels have the superior defense and Winthrop’s the better offensive team but they can give up points in bunches. However, Winthrop has been playing their best ball at home for much of the season and Campbell has had issues on the road and historically, this matchup has been all Winthrop. I’ll side with the Eagles at home in this one.
