The FIU Panthers and the Green Bay Phoenix meet Friday in college basketball action from McArthur Center. FIU is fresh off a matchup versus Ball State. In that one the Panthers posted a 13-point win. As for Green Bay, they played UNC Greensboro in their last game. The Phoenix ended up losing a tough one by just two points. FIU took on Georgia in their first outing of the year. The Panthers had a 27-22 lead at halftime but faltered from there in a 58-51 loss. In game two FIU got their first win. That one was against Trinity College FL, and the Panthers rolled 111-48.
In Thursday’s game versus Ball State, FIU scored 34 points in the first half and 39 more in the second during a 73-60 win. Tevin Brewer finished with 25 points, five assists and four rebounds to lead the team.
Over on the Green Bay side, they had a 43-38 edge on Indiana State in their opener but couldn’t hold on during a deflating 81-77 loss. Game two was even worse: Green Bay put up just 15 first-half points against Wisconsin, stumbling in a 72-34 defeat.
In game three versus UNC Greensboro on Thursday, Green Bay had a 34-27 lead at halftime but could only score 24 points from there in a rough 60-58 loss. Donovan Ivory was the leading scorer on 19 points with six rebounds and one assist.
FIU is 0-5 ATS in their last five Friday games and 5-15-2 ATS in the last 22 overall. The Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last five neutral-site gaels as a favorite.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix are 1-4 ATS in their last five Friday games and 1-5 ATS in their last six overall. The over is 20-7 in Green Bay’s last 27 as an underdog of 7.0-12.5 as well.
PICK: I’m going to stick with FIU. The Panthers had a good offensive outing on Thursday, shooting 40 percent from the floor with 12-of-31 from 3-point range. FIU added 39 rebounds and 15 team assists.
As for Green Bay, they had UNC Greensboro in a bad position at halftime in the Thursday game but couldn’t close the deal. The Phoenix shot just 37.7 percent from the field and were out-rebounded 39-27. I don’t think they’ll bounce back here.
