The IUPUI Jaguars and the Green Bay Phoenix meet Monday in college basketball action from Resch Center. IUPUI enters this matchup at 1-7 overall. The Jaguars lost to Milwaukee in their last game Saturday. As for Green Bay, they’re 0-7 after a loss to Milwaukee on Thursday. IUPUI lost their first three games of the year versus Iowa State, Drake and Chicago State before a win over Franklin. After that came losses to Denver, New Orleans, the Citadel and Milwaukee in succession.
In the Milwaukee game, the Jaguars were down 46-33 by halftime and limped to a 74-61 loss. Leading scorer Vincent Brady posted 18 points with four rebounds, while Jlynn Counter had 10 points with seven assists.
Over on the Green Bay side, it’s been a futile run so far. The losses have come to Indiana State, Georgetown, Wisconsin, Queens NC, Utah Valley, UIC and Milwaukee in succession over the Phoenix’s first seven outings.
In Thursday’s Milwaukee game, Green Bay faced a 10-point deficit going into the second half. Things didn’t get any better from there and the Phoenix lost 81-67. Cade Meyer led the team with 19 points, and both Brock Heffner and Randy Tucker logged 12 points apiece.
PICK: I’ll probably stay with IUPUI but I’m probably not going near it. There’s not a lot to get excited about in a matchup between teams that are a combined 1-14. The good news is that it should be a competitive game—and somebody has to win. IUPUI hasn’t scored well at all this year; they’ve hit more than 64 points just once so far (84 versus New Orleans). Green Bay is in the same boat—they’ve got a season-high of 67 points. This will likely be a close game finishing somewhere in the 60s for both teams, and I like the Jaguars to cover.
