The Fort Wayne Mastodons and the Green Bay Phoenix meet Friday in college basketball action from Kress Events Center. Fort Wayne is sitting at 16-10 on the year. The Mastodons beat Cleveland State in triple overtime during their last outing. As for Green Bay, they’re currently 4-21 and coming off a loss to Milwaukee. Fort Wayne stumbled to a 5-7 start this year, but they’ve only lost three games since January 5. The Mastodons are on a five-game win streak right now, taking out Milwaukee, Green Bay, IUPUI, UIC and Cleveland State in that time.
In the Cleveland State game, the Mastodons fought back from a 26-33 halftime deficit to force extra periods. After three overtimes Fort Wayne had a 102-98 win. Jalon Pipkins topped the team with 27 points and four rebounds in 51 minutes of work.
Over on the Green Bay side, there hasn’t been much to get excited about this season. The Phoenix have only won two games this calendar year. They’ve fallen to Wright State, Northern Kentucky and Milwaukee in the last trio.
In the Milwaukee game on Sunday, the Phoenix had a 22-17 lead at the break. Green Bay was outscored 22-37 from there in a 54-44 loss. Leading scorer Cade Meyer finished on 18 points with seven rebounds and a steal.
The Phoenix are 0-5 ATS in their last five overall and 0-5 ATS in their last five as an underdog. Green Bay is 1-5 ATS in their last six Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Mastodons are 8-3 ATS in the last 11 after an ATS win and 4-1 ATS in the last five overall. Fort Wayne is 4-1 ATS in the last five Friday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Fort Wayne here. The Mastodons have been scoring well over this five-game win streak; they’ve hit 70 or more points in each outing. These teams last met up back on February 6. Fort Wayne won that one at home 71-55 and didn’t have a ton of difficulties along the way. This rematch will likely look similar. Green Bay may keep pace initially but I don’t see the Phoenix having the gas to keep up.
