The UMKC Roos and the Green Bay Phoenix meet Saturday in college basketball action from Resch Center. UMKC comes into this one at 4-8 overall. The Roos lost to Oklahoma in their last game. UMKC opened the year at 1-3 with a lone win over Calgary. The Roos hit a 2-2 stretch in their next four with wins over Toledo and Indiana State. UMKC would go on to lose to SIUE, Idaho State and Oklahoma in the next four outings.

On Tuesday versus Oklahoma, UMKC had things tied up at 27-27 by halftime. The Roos managed just 26 points in the second half and lost 75-53. RayQuawndis Mitchell led the team on 18 points and two boards.

Over on the Green Bay side, their lone win this year came over IUPUI back on Monday. Otherwise it’s been losses to Indiana State, Georgetown, Wisconsin, Queens NC, Utah Valley, UIC, Milwaukee and Loyola IL.

In the matchup versus the Ramblers on Tuesday, the Phoenix were drilled 37-16 in the first half alone. Green Bay got better in the second but still lost 70-46. Leading team scorer Cade Meyer managed 15 points and three boards.

PICK: I’m staying with UMKC here. Granted, there’s not a ton to like in this matchup. That said, the Roos are coming off a pretty nice first-half performance versus Oklahoma. UMKC ended up shooting a tepid 35.8 percent from the field but out-rebounded the Sooners 31-27 (13-3 offensive). There are lots of positives to build on, and Green Bay will certainly be a softer opponent. The Phoenix are struggling to score this year; they haven’t eclipsed 68 points all season so far.
