Youngstown State started out the year with a 2-1 run, losing to Penn State before wins over Southeast Missouri State and St. Thomas MN. After losses to SIU Edwardsville and Niagara, the Penguins beat Milwaukee on Thursday.
In the win over Milwaukee, the Penguins turned a one-point halftime deficit into a 70-68 win with a 42-39 advantage in the second half. Tevin Olison led the way on 18 points and seven boards, while Owen Long chipped in 17 points with four rebounds.
Over on the Green Bay side, they lost their first five games to Indiana State, Wisconsin, UNC Greensboro, FIU and Weber State. The Phoenix have taken out Wisconsin-Superior and Robert Morris in their two matchups since.
On Thursday versus Robert Morris, Green Bay had a slim one-point lead at halftime. A solid 39-28 run in the second half led the Phoenix to a 70-58 victory. Emmanuel Ansong was tops with 23 points, and Donovan Ivory had 11 points with seven boards.
Green Bay is 7-2 ATS in the last nine Saturday games and 4-0 ATS in their last four overall. The over is 25-12 in the Phoenix’s last 37 Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Penguins are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 Saturday games. The over is 8-3-1 in Youngstown State’s last 12 road games.
PICK: I’m going to try Youngstown State in this one, but probably staying away. The Penguins are just 1-2 in their last three games, but the good news is that the two losses came by five points or fewer. In each of their wins, Youngstown State has 70 points or more. In the losses, it’s 66 points or less in each.
As for Green Bay, they’ve hit 70 or more in each of their last two games despite having some scoring issues this year. Youngstown State is going to need to get off to a good start and stay consistent, but I think they can knock out a cover here.
