IUPUI lost their first five games this year before picking up a win over Spalding. It’s been a futile 0-8 run since then. The losses have come to Detroit, Oakland, Tennessee State, Chicago State, Morehead State, Wright State, UIC and Green Bay.
On Thursday versus Green Bay, the Jaguars scored a tepid 26 points in the first half and 28 more in the second in a 69-54 defeat. Leading scorer BJ Maxwell put up 18 points, and Azariah Seay added 16 points with nine rebounds.
Over on the Milwaukee side, they were 5-9 after 14 games this year. The wins were versus North Dakota, Robert Morris, St. Xavier, Northern Kentucky and Green Bay. The Panthers have gone 0-3 since then thanks to Detroit, Oakland and UIC.
Matched up against UIC in their last game, the Panthers had a 34-27 halftime lead. Milwaukee lost it in the second half during an eventual 81-77 defeat. DeAndre Gholston put up 27 points with eight rebounds to lead the team.
The Panthers are 7-21 ATS in their last 28 at home and 4-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games. Milwaukee is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 after a straight-up loss.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 overall and 12-29-3 ATS in their last 44 Saturday games. IUPUI is 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss.
PICK: I suppose I’m taking Milwaukee here. Probably staying away, though; there’s not a whole lot to like. That said, Milwaukee played well for most of the UIC game, shooting 46.2 percent from the floor with a 39-29 rebounding advantage. The 17 turnovers and second-half breakdown didn’t help matters, though. Both these teams have been struggling to score lately, but IUPUI more so. If the Panthers can find a bit of an early spark on offense here, they should be fine.
