The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks and the Milwaukee Panthers meet Monday in college basketball action from Klotsche Center. Southeast Missouri State is fresh off a Sunday matchup versus UC Davis. In that one the Redhawks took a closely-contested loss. As for Milwaukee, they played Boston U on Sunday. The Panthers went on to win in a blowout. Southeast Missouri State posted three wins out of the gate this year versus South Florida, Lyon and Evansville. The Redhawks lost to Bradley, then bounced back with wins over William Woods and Boston U.
In the Sunday game versus UC Davis, Southeast Missouri State had things tied up 32-32 at halftime. The Redhawks scored 39 points in the second but ended up losing 73-71. Phillip Russell and Chris Harris led the team with 16 points apiece.
Over on the Milwaukee side, their year began on a 2-1 run with wins over Milwaukee School of Engineering and CSU around a loss to Purdue. The Panthers lost to Iowa State and St. Thomas MN before another win over UC Davis.
Matched up against Boston U in the Sunday game, the Panthers got off to a 32-13 lead after one half. Milwaukee kept the pace from there and took a 67-46 win. Tops in scoring was Ahmad Rand with 12 points, two blocks and three rebounds.
PICK: I’ll probably try Milwaukee here. The Panthers had a great first half in the Boston game on Sunday, holding the Terriers to just 25.9 percent shooting and 3-of-26 (11.5 percent) from 3-point range. Milwaukee managed 41.5 percent from the floor themselves and collected 42 rebounds in a pretty nice all-around effort.
As for Southeast Missouri State, they were outpaced by UC Davis in most categories during the Sunday loss. The Redhawks shot 40.7 percent to the Aggies’ 47.4 and had 32 rebounds to UC Davis’ 42. I don’t expect Southeast Missouri State to play badly here but I don’t think they’ll cover/win either. Should be a close game, though.
