Youngstown State was stuck around .500 for most of January, then hit a nice 8-1 stretch that lasted until February 19. The Penguins would then lose three straight to Wright State, Northern Kentucky and Robert Morris before the first-round tourney win over Morgan State.
In the Wednesday matchup versus the Bears, the Penguins jumped out to a nice 40-25 lead by the break. Youngstown State was outscored 30-40 from there but still hung on for the 70-65 win. Dwayne Cohill was the top scorer with his 28 points and four rebounds.
Over on the Wofford side, they had a 1-3 stretch in early January and a 2-4 run in February but they’ve stayed pretty consistent this season otherwise. The Terriers had a three-game win streak going earlier this month before falling to Chattanooga in the conference tournament.
In the March 6 game versus Chattanooga, the Terriers were down 20-38 after the first half. Wofford was outscored 36-41 from there in a 79-56 defeat. Leading the scoring was BJ Mack with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
The Terriers are 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss and 0-4 ATS in their last four at home. Wofford is 4-10 ATS in their last 14 overall.
Meanwhile, the Penguins are 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five road games. Youngstown State is 0-5 ATS in their last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Wofford. The Terriers didn’t look all that great in their last game back on March 6, getting out-rebounded 20-32 and allowing the Mocs to shoot 58.3 percent from the field. That said, Wofford had a nice run going prior to that, with 68 or more points in five of six games.
As for Youngstown State, they had a great first half against Morgan State in their last outing. Prior to that however, the Penguins had been giving up points at a hefty clip over a three-game span. If Wofford can get their offense going early in this one, I think they can keep the Penguins at bay.
