Yale vs Harvard 1/7/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Harvard Crimson and the Yale Bulldogs meet Saturday in college basketball action from Lee Amphitheater. Harvard is fresh off a Friday game versus Brown. In that game the Crimson eked out a close OT victory. As for Yale, they played Dartmouth in their Friday matchup. The Bulldogs would end up losing that one by four points. Harvard managed a 7-3 campaign to open up the year. The Crimson lost to Louisiana, Fordham and UMass in that stretch. The Crimson went 2-3 over their next five with losses to Howard, Kansas and Princeton. 

In the Brown game on Friday, the Crimson forced overtime after going into the break down by three points. Harvard scored another eight in the extra period for a 70-68 victory. Chris Ledlum topped the team on 21 points with nine rebounds. 

Over on the Yale side, they were 8-2 after 10 games this year. The losses in that time came to only Colorado and Butler. The Bulldogs would then lose to Kentucky, beat Fairfield and Monmouth, then beat Columbia. 

Matched up against Dartmouth on Friday, Yale was down 34-33 at halftime. The Bulldogs kept pace in the second half and made a late run but ended up falling 81-77. Matt Knowling led the team on 17 points and four rebounds. 

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Harvard here. The Crimson had a little trouble with a mediocre Brown team in their Friday matchup, shooting 43.5 percent from the floor with 36 rebounds and 14 turnovers. That said, Harvard gets credit for a gritty OT victory. They’re 2-1 in the last three outings. As for Yale, they’re not playing their best basketball over the last couple of appearances, but they’ve been hanging in there on the scoreboard. I like this one to be a competitive matchup and a fun game to watch, with the Crimson eking out a cover.
