The LSU Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide meet Saturday in college football action from Bryant-Denny. Here’s an Alabama vs LSU prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Alabama vs LSU pick.
LSU Tigers Betting Preview
LSU got off to a nice start this year and looked good coming out of the gate. The Tigers took out Clemson, Louisiana Tech, Florida and Southeastern Louisiana in their first quartet of games before a five-point road loss to Ole Miss. The Tigers rebounded from that defeat with a 10-point win over South Carolina then fell to Vanderbilt in their next outing. In the loss to the Commodores, LSU posted 325 yards on offense with just 14 first downs and 5-of-11 on third-down conversion attempts. The defense gave up 239 yards rushing on the other side as well.
In their latest matchup back on October 25, the Tigers fell back into the loss column. LSU was up 18-14 by the break then gave up 21 unanswered points along the way to a 49-25 defeat in the end. QB Garrett Nussmeier finished 22-of-35 for 168 yards and a touchdown in the loss, and Harlem Berry added nine carries for 59 yards and a TD of his own as the leading rusher. Tops in receiving was Barion Brown with four catches for 60 yards.
Alabama Crimson Tide Betting Preview
Over on the Alabama side, they kicked off the season with a pretty darn shocking upset road loss versus Florida State, then bounced back with a nice winning run. The Crimson Tide would rattle off wins over Louisiana-Monroe, Wisconsin, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Missouri and Tennessee over the next six games. In the win over the Vols on October 18, Alabama managed 373 yards of offense with 23 first downs and 5-of-11 on third-down tries. On the other side the defense gave up 410 yards with 27 first downs, but Tennessee’s 10 team penalties didn’t hurt matters.
Alabama was last in action versus South Carolina on October 25. In this road matchup, the Crimson Tide gave up nine unanswered points in the third quarter and had to rally late for a 29-22 comeback win. QB Ty Simpson went 24-of-43 for 253 yards and two scores while leading rusher Jamarion Miller had 10 totes for 26 yards. Germie Bernard had 23 yards rushing with a TD and Daniel Hill led the receivers on four catches for 76 yards.
Alabama vs LSU Prediction
I’ll stick with Alabama. The Tide got themselves into a late jam versus South Carolina though, so this matchup will need to be a lot cleaner. In the win over the Gamecocks, Alabama managed 325 yards total with 17 first downs and 8-of-16 on third-down tries alongside two lost fumbles. The defense held South Carolina to just 6-of-17 on third downs and 4.8 yards per play with two takeaways. Regardless, it was too close for comfort all the way around. Alabama is scoring great these days though, with 24 or more points in seven straight games (all wins).
As for LSU, they gave up 426 yards, 7.0 yards per play and 7-of-10 on third downs in their loss to Texas A&M. The offense could only gather 218 pass yards and 2-of-12 on third downs in response, hence the sizable loss. The Tigers have given up 80 points combined over the last two games so Alabama should have plenty of scoring opportunities in this one.
