The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the Appalachian State Mountaineers meet Tuesday in college football action from Kidd Brewer Stadium. Coastal Carolina sits at 2-3 overall this year. The Chanticleers last appeared in a 10-point loss to Georgia Southern. As for Appalachian State, they’re currently 3-2 following a one-point victory versus LA-Monroe back on September 30. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 

The Chanticleers had a tricky road game versus UCLA in their opener and ended up losing 27-13. The next two games were both victories for Coastal Carolina however: 30-16 over Jacksonville State and 66-7 against Duquesne. The Chanticleers fell in their next outing to Georgia State 30-17 despite 295 yards and a TD from QB Grayson McCall. 

In their most recent appearance versus Georgia Southern on September 30, the Chanticleers lost another one. Coastal Carolina gave up 21 points in the second quarter during a 38-28 defeat. McCall threw for 299 yards, one score and four picks in the defeat, while Braydon Bennett rushed 15 times for 114 yards and a touchdown.

Over on the Appalachian State side, they took out Gardner-Webb 45-24 in their first game of the year, then gave North Carolina a real scare in a 40-34 overtime defeat. The Mountaineers would bounce back with a 43-28 win over East Carolina in game three, but then took a tough loss to Wyoming 22-19 back on September 23. 

In game five versus LA-Monroe, the Mountaineers had a 40-35 deficit heading into the fourth quarter. App State ended up powering out a 41-40 win on 335 yards, three scores and two interceptions from QB Joey Aguilar. Nate Noel added 18 carries for 109 yards, and Christian Horn caught six balls for 124 yards and two TDs. Kaedin Robinson had 10 catches for 112 yards and a score as well.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’ll stay with Appalachian State in this one. The Mountaineers are coming off a nice comeback road victory against LA-Monroe, however there are plenty of areas that need improvement. The Mountaineers posted 536 yards (201 rushing), 7.1 yards per play and 28 first downs in the win, however the team also had four turnovers (two fumbles) and gave up 7.0 yards per play on the other side. Still, App State has scored 34 or more points in four of five games this year and should hang a nice total in this one. 

As for Coastal Carolina, they had some rough statistical areas in their last game as well, such as the four interceptions, 10 penalties for 110 yards and 438 yards allowed on the way to the loss. The Chanticleers have been scoring pretty well this year themselves, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see a big total here. I like App State better on the cover, though.
