The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and Arkansas State Red Wolves sqaure off Thursday night in Sun Belt college football action from Centennial Bank Stadium. Coastal Carolina is coming off a weekend matchup versus LA-Monroe. The Chanticleers ended up bagging a blowout win. As for the Red Wolves, they played Georgia Southern in their last outing. In that one Arkansas State fell in a big loss. Check back all season long for free college football picks at Sports Chat Place.
Coastal Carolina came out of the gate strong this year with a nice 52-14 win over the Citadel in the opener. The Chanticleers then took out Kansas 49-22 but then had a minor scare versus Buffalo in a 28-25 win. Coastal then beat UMass 53-3 in game four.
Last weekend versus LA-Monroe, the Chanticleers didn’t have too much trouble and rolled to a 59-6 victory. Coastal Carolina QB Grayson McCall put up 212 yards and two scores on a perfect 13-of-13 passing, and Reese White rushed 15 times for 95 yards.
Over on the Arkansas State side, they managed to beat Central Arkansas in their opener 40-21 to kick off the season on a high note. After that however, the Red Wolves dropped games to Memphis 55-50, Washington 52-3 and Tulsa 41-34 in the next trio.
In their last matchup versus Georgia Southern, the Red Wolves gave up double-digit scoring in every quarter during a 59-33 loss. QB James Blackman threw for 292 yards with two TDs and three picks, and Corey Rucker led the receivers on 86 yards and two scores from seven grabs.
The Chanticleers are 6-0 ATS in their last six in October games and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. Coastal is 7-1-1 ATS in their last nine conference games as well.
Meanwhile, the Red Wolves are 7-2 ATS in their last nine at home and 7-2 ATS in their last nine after an ATS loss. AR State is also 2-5 in their last seven conference games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers have been quite impressive so far this year, and they kept that up on both sides of the ball last weekend. Coastal gave up just 203 total yards and 10 first downs, while notching 557 yards of their own with 28 first downs and a cool 9-of-11 mark on third-down tries.
As for Arkansas State, they had a weird statistical game Saturday with 534 total yards and 443 pass yards. The Red Wolves gave up 540 total yards and 503 rushing yards on the other side and were spinning their wheels most of the game. This one should be a better matchup but I think the Chanticleers are in a better cover position.
