The UConn Huskies and the Buffalo Bulls meet Saturday in college football action from UB Stadium. Here’s a Buffalo vs UConn prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Buffalo vs UConn pick.

UConn Huskies Betting Preview

The Huskies have played four games so far, starting with a routine matchup versus Central Connecticut State back on August 30. UConn didn’t have any issues there, scoring double-digit points in all four quarters on the way to a 59-13 blowout win. In game two, the Huskies gave up 14 points to Syracuse in the fourth quarter, leading to a tough road loss 27-20 in overtime. The Delaware matchup in game three was another overtime affair, and another close loss for UConn. The Huskies were outscored 6-3 in the extra period for a 44-41 defeat. UConn posted 521 yards of offense in that one, giving up 512 (247 rushing) on the other side.

Last weekend in their game versus Ball State, the Huskies were up 10-0 by the end of the first quarter and 10-7 by the break. After a couple more touchdowns in the fourth, UConn was able to hang on for the win 31-25. QB Joe Fagano threw for 181 yards and a score on 20-of-30 passing, but Camryn Edwards did most of the heavy lifting on offense with 24 carries for 194 yards and a pair of scores. Tops in receiving was Skyler Bell with 14 catches for 113 yards and a touchdown in the victory.

Buffalo Bulls Betting Preview

Over on the Buffalo side, they opened up their year with a game versus Minnesota. The Bulls ended up falling in that one 23-10 after getting outscored 10-0 in the fourth quarter. In game two versus St. Francis, the Bulls were able to notch their first win of the year. Buffalo posted 17 points in the first quarter (scoring in every quarter along the way) for a 45-6 win. Game three was another victory, though this one was a lot tighter. The Bulls gave up a touchdown in each quarter along the way to a 31-28 win. The Buffalo offense accounted for 467 total yards in that one, with 318 of those coming via the pass.

Matched up against Troy back on Saturday, the Bulls took a tough loss. Buffalo was ahead 14-0 going into the fourth quarter, then got outscored 21-3 the rest of the way in a 21-17 finish. Ta’Quan Roberson was 9-of-15 for 104 yards, and Al-Jay Henderson topped the rush with 22 totes for 76 yards and a touchdown. Jasaiah Gathings caught two balls for 47 yards to top the receivers while Victor Snow contributed five catches for 38 yards in the tough defeat.

Buffalo vs UConn Prediction

I’ll likely lean toward Buffalo, but they’re coming off a rough game in the loss to Troy so I’m probably not touching this one regardless. The Bulls accumulated 278 yards of offense in that one (153 passing) with 4.5 yards per play, 14 first downs and a pretty ugly 6-of-17 on third-down tries. The defense gave up 365 yards (202 passing) on the other side with 10-of-21 on third downs and 3-of-4 on fourth downs. The two takeaways helped, but there was no overcoming that bad fourth quarter. Buffalo has two games with 17 or fewer points (both losses) so far and two with 31 or more points (both wins).
As for UConn, they were able to eke past Ball State thanks to 217 rushing yards. Bell accounted for 113 of the team’s 181 passing yards though, and the Huskies went just 5-of-15 on third-down tries. UConn is going to need to spread the ball around better this weekend, and I’d like to see a few more first downs. Buffalo can cover if they bounce back well, but I’m staying away.
