The BYU Cougars and Arkansas Razorbacks do battle Saturday in week 7 college football action from LaVell Edwards Stadium. Arkansas is fresh off a matchup versus Mississippi State. In that one the Razorbacks took a blowout loss. As for BYU, they played Notre Dame in their last game. The Cougars ended up losing that one by eight points. Arkansas kicked off their year with three straight wins. The Razorbacks took out Cincinnati in the opener 31-24, then South Carolina 44-30 and Missouri State 38-27. Arkansas took a loss to Texas A&M in game four, then lost to Alabama 49-26 to start October.
Back on Saturday versus Mississippi State, Arkansas was down 21-10 by halftime and gave up points in every quarter during a 40-17 loss. QB Malik Hornsby put up 234 yards with a TD and two picks, while also leading the rush with 114 yards off eight carries.
Over on the BYU side, their year began with a 50-21 blowout win over South Florida and a tense OT victory 26-20 over Baylor. The Cougars would then lose 41-20 to Oregon, but bounced back with wins over Wyoming and Utah State in the next pair.
Matched up against Notre Dame, BYU took an 18-6 deficit into the break and didn’t get much closer during a 28-20 loss. QB Jaren Hall finished on 120 yards with two scores and an interception, while Christopher Brown added 14 carries for 86 yards and a TD.
PICK: I might take a stab on Arkansas. Probably staying away, though. The Razorbacks gave up a whopping 568 yards to Mississippi State in their loss over the weekend, along with 6.7 yards per play and 33 first downs. Arkansas managed 483 yards of offense themselves, but couldn’t really keep up on the other side.
As for BYU, they gave up 496 yards and an 11-of-16 run on third downs to the Irish during their loss. BYU had a tepid 13 first downs and held the ball for just 19:05 as well. The Cougars should match up better here, and it should be an interesting game.
