The TCU Horned Frogs and the BYU Cougars meet Saturday in college football action from LaVell Edwards Stadium. Here’s a BYU vs TCU prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best BYU vs TCU pick.
TCU Horned Frogs Betting Preview
The Horned Frogs bagged a few wins right off the bat this year, beating North Carolina, Abilene Christian and SMU in their first trio ahead of a loss to Arizona State. TCU would go 3-1 over the next four games with a lone loss to Kansas State among wins versus Colorado, Baylor and West Virginia. In the 23-17 victory over the Mountaineers on October 25, TCU gathered 343 yards with 4.8 yards per play, 19 first downs and no turnovers on offense—but went just 6-of-16 on third downs. The defense gave up 342 yards on the other side with 3-of-14 on third downs and 20 total first downs in the victory.
In last weekend’s matchup with Iowa State, TCU was up by a score of 10-6 heading into the final quarter. Following a 14-7 deficit from there however, the Frogs had a tough home loss 20-17 in the end. Josh Hoover threw for 319 yards, one TD and two picks on 34-of-50 passing and leading rusher Jeremy Payne had eight carries for 71 yards. Jordan Dwyer (11 catches; 108 yards; TD) and Eric McAlister (11 catches; 107 yards) were the top receivers in the loss.
BYU Cougars Betting Preview
Over on the BYU side, they hit a nice win streak right out of the gate this year. The Cougars disposed of Portland State, Stanford, East Carolina, Colorado, West Virginia, Arizona, Utah and Iowa State in their first eight outings in succession. In the October 25 win over Iowa State, BYU managed to post double-digit points in each of the last three quarters during a 41-27 road win. The offense put up 410 total yards, 307 pass yards, 6.4 yards per play and 17 first downs along the way. The defense gave up 495 yards and 7.1 yards on the other side as well.
In last weekend’s big showdown versus Texas Tech, the Cougars were in trouble with a 13-0 halftime deficit and a 19-0 disadvantage going into the final frame. BYU managed a cosmetic touchdown but never got close in a 29-7 defeat on the road. QB Bear Bachmeier finished with a 23-of-38 line for 188 yards and a score while leading rusher LJ Martin had 10 carries for 35 yards. Chase Roberts added six catches for 61 yards and a touchdown of his own in the loss.

BYU vs TCU Prediction
I’ll stick with BYU. Following a pretty ineffective loss on the road versus Texas Tech last weekend, the Cougars need a good showing here. This is a good spot to get it, though. BYU ended up with just 255 total yards against the Red Raiders with 14 first downs, 3-of-14 on third downs and three turnovers. The defense gave up 368 yards on the other side along with 17 first downs and no takeaways. The seven points scored were BYU’s lowest total of the season by a pretty significant margin.
As for TCU, they lost the handle in the fourth quarter versus Iowa State and ended up with a home loss. The Frogs offense generated 432 yards with 30 first downs but also coughed up three turnovers. On defense TCU gave up 272 yards and had a couple of picks with 15 first downs and 8-of-16 on third-down tries allowed. Long story short, it should have been a win. After a pretty good run of scoring TCU has been below 24 points in consecutive games now. This weekend won’t get any easier.
