West Virginia and BYU meet Saturday in Week 6 college football action from LaVell Edwards Stadium. Here’s a BYU vs West Virginia prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best West Virginia Mountaineers vs BYU Cougars pick.

West Virginia Has Issues

West Virginia has some major issues right now and they have lost two games in a row. Three games ago against Pittsburgh, West Virginia was able to secure the 31-24 victory. Since that point, though, they have been blown out against Kansas and Utah. Against the Utes in that last game, West Virginia scored 14 points, while the defense gave up 48 points, and that led to the defeat. Khalil Wilkins and Jaylen Henderson both played under center, and both had issues. Henderson finished with only 22 yards while Wilkins finished with 63 yards and a touchdown.

West Virginia on the season, is averaging 22 points while their defense is giving up 26.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 101st while the defense is ranked 92nd. They have to find a way to get the offense going here, or this is going to be a long game.

West Virginia Mountaineers Player Prop Facts

  • Heading into Week 6, Jahiem White leads West Virginia for touchdowns (3) this season.

BYU Keeps Winning

At the end of the day, all that matters is winning, but BYU was really tested in the last game. BYU faced off against Colorado, and it was seven points in the 4th quarter that ended up picking up the victory. Bear Bachmeier had a strong game, completing 19 of his 27 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a huge game on the ground, rushing 15 times for 98 yards. In this game, BYU is going to need the defense to step up again, and make life really tough on the West Virginia offense.

BYU on the season is averaging 38.5 points while their defense is giving up 9.2 points per game. The offense is ranked 23rd, while the defense is ranked 4th. This isn’t really a huge test for BYU and they should feel pretty disappointed if the Cougars somehow found a way to keep this game close.

BYU Cougars Player Prop Facts

  • Heading into Week 6, LJ Martin is one of only seven players in the FBS to record 100+ rushing yards in three or more consecutive games this season.

Matchup/League Facts

  • BYU ranks T3rd among FBS teams for average point differential in second quarters this season (+15.0).
  • BYU ranks 4th among FBS teams for points allowed per game this season (9.3).
  • West Virginia ranks T131st among FBS teams for H1 points per game this season (5.4).
  • West Virginia ranks 131st among FBS teams for average point differential in second quarters this season (-6.8).

West Virginia vs BYU Prediction

BYU is the better team and they are going to put on a show here. West Virginia’s offense scored 14 points in the last game while the defense gave up 48 points, and that is going to end up being the difference. BYU is going to get another big game from Bachmeier, and he’s going to throw for at least three touchdowns, and I think he can add another one on the ground. West Virginia won’t reach more than 10 points, and it’s going to be BYU that is going to end up winning in blowout fashion. BYU wil be covering this game by halftime. Back BYU to cover the spread.
