Charlotte vs East Carolina Prediction

I’m going to stick with ECU. The Pirates have had a pretty nice year so far with some solid wins and a few close losses. East Carolina got a tight win against a good South Florida team in their latest outing, posting 25 first downs, 361 total yards and 6-of-15 on third downs. The defense gave up 19 first downs and 329 yards with zero takeaways but was excellent on third downs with a 1-of-10 success rate allowed. East Carolina has scored 20 or fewer points in three of the last four games, so I’d like to see them eclipse that total in this one.

As for Charlotte, they fell to 1-8 on the year with a loss to a mediocre UAB team over the weekend. The Niners posted just 234 total yards on offense with 10 first downs and only 4-of-17 on third-down tries. The defense was pretty solid on the other side though, with four takeaways and 319 yards surrendered. It’s been a rough year in Charlotte; they’ve finished below 13 points in five of their nine games so far. I don’t see them being super competitive here either.

East Carolina Pirates Betting Preview

The Pirates have had some ups and downs this season but they’ve been pretty darn good over the last eight games or so. ECU opened with a loss to Alabama then another against App State. Three wins came next over Old Dominion, NC Central and Rice, then two more losses to UAB and Memphis, both in OT. Since then East Carolina has beaten Temple and South Florida for a 5-4 overall record through the first nine outings of the year.

Last Friday versus South Florida, the Pirates managed a field goal and a touchdown in the second quarter on the way to a 10-10 tie at the break. East Carolina scored another TD in the third, then booted the game winner as time expired for a 20-17 victory in the end. QB Emory Williams was 19-of-27 for 175 yards and two scores. Ashton Gray added 101 yards on 18 carries and Landon Sides had 14 catches for 126 yards and two scores.

Charlotte 49ers Betting Preview

Over on the Charlotte side, they haven’t had a great year. The 49ers lost their first six outings of the season, falling versus the Citadel, Ole Miss, App State, Louisiana, Memphis and North Texas in succession. Charlotte got their first win of the year versus Temple, then lost another one versus Tulane the next week in overtime. Across the first eight games that gave Charlotte a rough 1-7 record in the books.

Matched up against UAB last weekend the Niners traded field goals in the first half and went to the break tied up 3-3. Charlotte gave up a couple of touchdowns in the fourth quarter however, eventually losing the game 23-12. QB Conner Harrell finished 15-of-31 for 175 yards and one TD. Khamani Alexander added 11 carries for 40 yards as the team’s leading rusher and Jaden Barnes topped the receivers with his six catches for 80 yards and a touchdown in the losing effort.
