The North Texas Mean Green and the Charlotte 49ers meet Friday in college football action from Jerry Richardson Stadium. Here’s a Charlotte vs North Texas prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Charlotte vs North Texas pick.

North Texas Mean Green Betting Preview

The Mean Green looked great out of the gate this year. North Texas was able to rattle off five straight victories to start off the season, dispatching Lamar, Western Michigan (OT), Washington State, Army (OT) and South Alabama in succession for a perfect start. Once the Mean Green matched up against a very good (and nationally-ranked) South Florida team on October 10 however, they’d met their match. North Texas held a 21-21 tie by the break then coughed up four touchdowns in the third quarter on the way to a 63-36 home loss. The Mean Green gave up 580 yards in that one, including a whopping 306 yards on the ground.

In their game versus UTSA last weekend, North Texas was up by 10 points by the beginning of the second half. The Mean Green scored 21 points in the third quarter on the way to a 55-17 blowout victory at home. QB Drew Mestemaker finished 22-of-35 for 277 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for a score. Caleb Hawkins was the top North Texas player in the run game, accumulating 133 yards off 18 carries. Wyatt Young added six grabs for 102 yards and a whopping three scores as the team’s top receiver.

Charlotte 49ers Betting Preview

Over on the Charlotte side, they started out on a skid with a couple of tricky matchups. The 49ers fell to Appalachian State and North Carolina in their first pair before finally bagging a win over Monmouth by one score. Game four was a loss to Rice however, then came a 54-26 loss to South Florida. Charlotte made it three in a row with another loss to Army on the road October 11. The 49ers were held to just 11 first downs, 3.2 yards per play and a 5-of-14 success rate on third downs in the defeat. The defense gave up 304 rushing yards to Army on the other side during the loss as well.

Matched up against Temple on Saturday, the Niners coughed up 21 points in both the second and third quarters on the way to a blowout loss at home 49-14. QB Grayson Loftis went 10-of-22 for 108 yards, one TD and one pick. Zach Wilcke rushed for a score, and Jake Davids had 13 carries for 42 yards. Javen Nicholas was the high man among the receivers with five catches for 50 yards in the losing effort.

Charlotte vs North Texas Prediction

I’ll lean toward North Texas. The Mean Green are coming off a nice performance against a middling UTSA team over the weekend, bagging 584 total yards, 270 rushing yards, 7.2 yards per play and a nice 34 first downs. Sure, there were a few areas to complain about; namely the eight penalties and the rough 5-of-14 success rate on third downs. Defensively North Texas picked up three lost fumbles and held the Roadrunners to just 4-of-11 on third downs alongside 14 first downs total. The Green are cooking on offense these days as well, notching 33 or more points in all seven games so far.

As for Charlotte, they mustered 357 yards (199 rushing) with 4.7 yards per play, 21 first downs and 6-of-16 on third-down tries alongside three turnovers against Temple. The defense stood tall on third downs (2-of-9) but it hardly mattered as the Owls struck quickly. Charlotte is now riding a four-game skid with fewer than 18 points in each of those outings. They’re in for another tough one Saturday—even at home.
