The LSU Tigers and the Clemson Tigers meet in week 1 college football action from Memorial Stadium on Saturday. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s an LSU Tigers vs. Clemson Tigers prediction.

LSU Tigers Team Preview

The LSU Tigers come into the 2025 season hoping to improve on what was a frustrating 2024 season where LSU finished at 9-4 overall, including a 5-3 mark in SEC conference play. LSU would get an invite to the Texas Bowl, where they took down Baylor 44-31. Garrett Nussmeier comes in after throwing for over 4,000 yards and 29 TDs to offset 12 INTs while the receiving corps is led by Aaron Anderson, who had 61 catches for 884 yards and 5 TDs las season. Nic Anderson averaged 21 yards per catch in 2023 and is hoping for a clean bill of health to be an impact player for LSU this season. On defense, Patrick Payton comes in from Florida State to give the Tigers a top-end edge rusher on one side and Gabriel Reliford is an up-and-coming name on the end to give LSU some serious push up front. Harold Perkins Jr. is coming off of a torn ACL hoping to headman the linebackers, while Whit Weeks had a team-high 125 tackles as well as 3.5 sacks and is back in the fold for the Tigers this season.

Why the LSU Tigers will win

  • LSU has won eight of its last nine games against non-conference opponents.
  • Clemson has lost each of its last three games against opponents from the Southeastern Conference.
  • Clemson has failed to cover the spread in each of its last four games at Memorial Stadium (Clemson).
  • The underdog has covered the spread in four of Clemson’s last five games.

Clemson Tigers Team Preview

The Clemson Tigers come into the 2025 season looking to add on to their 2024 campaign where the team finished 10-4 overall including 7-1 in ACC conference play. Clemson would take down SMU in the ACC title game, 34-31, before falling to Texas in the CFP Playoff first round, 38-24. Cade Klubnik is back under center behind a loaded offensive line after throwing for a 36:6 TD:INT ratio, and is flanked by one of Clemson’s best receiving rooms in some time. Antonio Williams is back after leading Clemson with 75 catches and 11 TDs while TJ Moore is a big play threat who had 45 grabs. The backfield has question marks, but there’s a lot of upside with true freshman Gideon Davis. On defense, Avieon Terrell leads the secondary while Wade Woodaz and Sammy Brown were the top two tacklers for Clemson last season and both are back as well while Will Heldt leads the charge up front for Clemson.

Why the Clemson Tigers will win

  • LSU has lost each of its last five season openers.
  • LSU has failed to cover the spread in each of its last five season openers.

Total Points Facts

  • Seven of Clemson’s last eight games against non-conference opponents at Memorial Stadium (Clemson) have gone OVER the total points line.
  • Each of LSU’s last five games against teams from South Carolina have gone OVER the total points line.

LSU Tigers vs. Clemson Tigers Prediction

I’m backing Clemson in this one. LSU just has not had luck in season openers in recent years, and Clemson is a tough place to go on the road and win, regardless of what time of year you go. I like the continuity that Clemson has going throughout the lineup, and think that Clemson gets the job done at home to start the year. Give me Clemson in this one.
