Coastal Carolina and East Carolina meet Saturday in Week 3 college football action from the Brooks Stadium. Here’s a Coastal Carolina vs East Carolina prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Coastal Carolina Chanticleers vs East Carolina Pirates pick.
Solid Start for East Carolina
It has been a solid start to the season for East Carolina, and even though they sit with a 1-1 record, they can’t really be mad about the loss. In the first game of the season against NC State they were defeated 24-17. In the last game against Campbell, East Carolina scored 56 points on the way to the victory. The Pirates had 535 total yards, and 363 of those came through the air. Katin Houser completed 25 of his 35 passes for 314 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. The top rusher was TJ Engleman Jr, who finished with five catches for 36 yards.
They also did a really good job of spreading the ball around. Brock Spalding was the top receiver finishing with three carries for 81 yards. In this game, the Chanticleers need the offense to be good, and they have to get out ot a fast start.
Why East Carolina Will Beat Coastal Carolina
- East Carolina has won six of its last eight games against non-AP-ranked teams.
- Coastal Carolina has failed to cover the spread in five of its last six games.
- East Carolina has covered the spread in four of its last five games against non-AP-ranked teams.
Is Coastal Carolina’s Offense An Issue?
Coastal Carolina comes into this game with a 1-1 record but it really looks like their offense could be an issue. In the first game, Coastal Carolina was defeated 48-7 at the hands of Virginia. In the last game against Charleston Southern, the offense only managed 13 points, but the defense was elite, giving up zero points, and that was enough for the comfortable victory. Coastal Carolina finished with 384 total yards, and 245 of those came on the ground. MJ Morris completed 13 of his 22 passes 102 yards, zero touchdowns, and three interceptions. Coastal Carolina really needs to clean up the turnover issues quickly.
For the running, it was a balanced attack with three different players finishing with at least 51 rushing yards. Dominic Knicely had quite the game, finishing with nine carries for 92 yards. Tad Hudson also rushed three times for 19 yards and ended up finding the end zone once.
Why Coastal Carolina Will Beat East Carolina
- Coastal Carolina has won three of its last four games as an underdog against teams from North Carolina.
- East Carolina has lost three of its last four games against opponents from the Sun Belt Conference.
- East Carolina has failed to cover the spread in three of its last four games against opponents from the Sun Belt Conference.
- The underdog has covered the spread in three of Coastal Carolina’s last four games at Brooks Stadium.
Coastal Carolina vs East Carolina Prediction
This total is just a bit too high. Usually Coastal Carolina is used to the strong offense but this year that hasn’t been the case. The turnovers have been a problem, and their offense is going to really struggle to get the offense going here. I do expect their defense is going to step up, much like they did in that last game. I don’t have a strong play one way or the other on the side, but this game is going to end up being lower scoring, and the under is going to end up cashing. This is one of my favorite plays on the board.
