The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Colorado Buffaloes meet in week 1 college football action from Folsom Field on Friday. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Georgia Tech vs. Colorado prediction.
Georgia Tech Team Preview
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets come into the season looking to take a step forward in 2025, finishing with a 7-6 record and 5-3 mark in ACC conference play for their first winning season since 2018 and their first bowl game appearance since then as well, falling short in the Birmingham Bowl against Vanderbilt. Haynes King is back at QB after having a solid year in 2024, throwing for 14 TDs to just two interceptions and Jamal Haynes returns after rushing for 944 yards and 9 TDs. Malik Rutherford is back after leading Georgia Tech with 62 receptions as well. On defense, the Yellow Jackets have to battle some overhaul, but Kyle Efford’s back after leading the Yellow Jackets with 64 tackles and Ahmari Harvey is back in the secondary after finishing second on the team with 63 tackles.
Why the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will win
- The favorite has won each of Colorado’s last eight games at Folsom Field.
- Colorado has lost each of its last seven games as a home underdog.
- Colorado has failed to cover the spread in five of its last six games against non-conference opponents at Folsom Field.
- The favorite has covered the spread in four of Colorado’s last five games at Folsom Field.
Colorado Recap
The Colorado Buffaloes come into the 2025 campaign looking to improve on a 9-4 mark in 2024, including a 7-2 mark in Big 12 conference play. The Buffs would get an invite to the Alamo Bowl, where the Buffs would fall to BYU, 36-14, but giving Colorado their first top-25 finish to a season since 2016. The Buffs have to replace the irreplaceable in Shedeur Sanders, but hope they did so with former Liberty QB Kaidon Salter who threw for almost 6,000 yards and rushed for over 2,000 yards with 21 touchdowns for the Flames the last three seasons. The receiving corps has a ton of overhaul to deal with as well, and Omarion Miller is next in line to replace the likes of Travis Hunter and LaJohntay Wester. Marshall Faulk’s been brought in to help the running back room which needs help after boasting the worst ground attack in the country last year. On defense, Jaheim Oatis transfers in to replace BJ Green on the defensive line and Samuel Okunlola and Arden Walker will flank UTSA transfer Martavius French in the Buffs’ linebacking group.
Why the Colorado Buffaloes will win
- Colorado has won eight of its last nine games against non-AP-ranked teams.
- Georgia Tech has lost seven of its last eight road openers.
- Colorado has covered the spread in each of its last six games in Colorado.
- Georgia Tech has failed to cover the spread in four of its last five season openers as a favorite.
Total Points Facts
- Four of Georgia Tech’s last five games as a favorite have gone OVER the total points line.
- Four of Colorado’s last five games as a home underdog have gone OVER the total points line.
Georgia Tech vs. Colorado Prediction
I’m looking at Georgia Tech here. I get that Deion Sanders has something here with Colorado, as there’s a different feeling in the air since he’s taken over this program. However, with all due respect to Salter, replacing Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, two pieces that were paramount to the Buffs’ success last year, is no easy feat, and Georgia Tech is a dark horse for me in the ACC this season. I feel like there’s a lot more of a proven commodity aspect to Georgia Tech here, and I think they win this game by a TD on the road so give me the Yellow Jackets in a 31-24 kind of game.
