The Colorado Buffaloes meet the Texas A&M Aggies Saturday in week 2 college football action from Empower Field at Mile High. Texas A&M is coming off their opener versus Kent State. In that game, the Aggies destroyed the Flashes by 31 points. As for Colorado, they played Northern Colorado in week one. The Buffaloes put up a 28-point win in that one. Texas A&M played 10 games last year, finishing 9-1 overall and 8-1 in Southeastern Conference play. The Aggies would finish in second place in the West Division of the conference, and went on to beat North Carolina in the Orange Bowl 41-27.
In their season opener versus Kent State, the Aggies were a little slow to start but ultimately bagged a 41-10 win with 31 second-half points. QB Haynes King put up 292 yards with two scores and three picks, and Devon Achane had 12 carries for 124 yards and two TDs.
Over on the Colorado side, they managed to play a half-dozen matchups last year, going 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the Pac-12. The Buffaloes ended up in second place in the South Division. Their season ended on a down note with a 55-23 loss to Texas in the Alamo Bowl, however.
In week one versus Northern Colorado, the Buffaloes scored in all but one quarter in a 35-7 blowout win. QB Brendon Lewis notched 102 yards with a TD, and Jarek Broussard had 94 yards and a score from 15 carries. Colorado posted four rush touchdowns in the game.
PICK: I’m going to take Colorado in this one, but probably staying away. The Buffaloes were great on rush defense in their opener, holding Northern Colorado to just 20 yards. There was quite a disparity in pass production though (236 yards to the Buffaloes’ 102) and Colorado had 12 penalties for 118 yards. They’ve certainly got a few things to clean up, but the potential is there.
As for Texas A&M, they were up just 10-3 at halftime in their first game, but really started to flex their muscle from there with 595 total yards. The Aggies do have some things to clean up however, like the five turnovers. This one should be a fun matchup but I like the Buffaloes a little better on the cover.
