The Georgia Southern Eagles meet the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Saturday in Week 4 college football action from Paulson Stadium. Louisiana is coming off a game last Thursday versus Ohio. In that matchup the Cajuns took a blowout victory. As for Georgia Southern, they played Arkansas in their last outing. The Eagles ended up losing by 35 points. Louisiana couldn’t keep up with Texas in their opener, giving up points in al four quarters on the way to a 38-18 defeat. The Cajuns played better versus Nicholls State in game two, however. Louisiana took a 17-10 lead into halftime in that one, eventually holding on for a 27-24 win.
In game three versus Ohio, the Cajuns scored 21 points in the fourth quarter on the way to a big 49-14 blowout win. Quarterback Levi Lewis put up 212 yards with a TD and a pick, and Emani Bailey led the rush with 89 yards. Montrell Johnson had a monster game with 84 rush yards and four TDs as well.
Over on the Georgia Southern side, they were able to hold off Gardner-Webb in their opener game despite giving up 13 fourth-quarter points in a 30-25 win. The Eagles offense stalled after the first quarter in their second game against Florida Atlantic, and they were blown out 38-6.
In week three the Eagles played Arkansas. Georgia Southern was behind 24-10 at the break and didn’t score from there in a 45-10 loss. QB Justin Tomlin put up 65 yards on 11-of-23 passing, and also rushed for 65 yards on 10 carries.
The Cajuns are 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 conference games. Louisiana is 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win as well.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 6-1 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS loss. Georgia Southern is also 6-2 ATS in their last eight at home.
PICK: I’m going to try Louisiana here. The Cajuns were pretty darn impressive in their last game versus an overwhelmed Ohio team, notching 562 total yards with 310 coming on the ground. Louisiana had 6.8 yards per play and whopping 33 first downs during the big win, and the offense continues to look better.
As for Georgia Southern, they had a tough draw against Arkansas in their last outing, giving up 633 yards of offense and 8.7 yards per play. The Eagles couldn’t get anything going on either side of the ball. GA Southern should look better in this one but I still like the Cajuns on the potential cover bid.
