The UAB Blazers and the Georgia Bulldogs meet Saturday in college football action from Sanford Stadium. The Blazers are coming off last weekend’s matchup versus Louisiana. In that game UAB lost by 20 points. As for Georgia, they played South Carolina in their most recent outing. The Bulldogs would go on to win by 10 points to stay undefeated. UAB Blazers 

The Blazers did well in their opener this year versus North Carolina A&T, posting points in every quarter during a 35-6 blowout win. UAB held the Aggies to just 16 passing yards in the victory. Game two versus Georgia Southern was a trickier matchup, as the Blazers eventually fell 49-35. UAB coughed up 462 yards (344 passing) and a 10-of-13 rate on third-down tries in that  one. 

Last weekend versus Louisiana, UAB gave up 24 points in the second quarter and never recovered during a 41-21 loss. QB Jacob Zeno posted 280 yards with a TD and two interceptions while also leading the rush on 52 yards and a score. Samario Rudolph had 66 yards and a TD off eight grabs to pace the receiving corps.

Over on the Georgia side, they rolled in their first couple of games. First was a 48-7 win over TN-Martin on September 2. The Bulldogs generated 559 total yards (400 passing) and 8.0 yards per play. Game two was more of the same in a blowout 45-3 win over Ball State. The Georgia offense was a little more subdued this time with 386 yards (287 passing) and 22 first downs. 

In the South Carolina matchup for game three, Georgia was in trouble at halftime with a 14-3 deficit. The Bulldogs rallied from there on a 21-0 run however and took the win 24-14. Carson Beck threw for 269 yards on 27-of-35 passing, and Daijun Edwards was the lead rusher with 118 yards and a score. Marcus Rosemy caught six balls for 71 yards as well.

I’ve got to stay with Georgia. Realistically there’s pretty much no chance of the Bulldogs losing this game (hence the crazy thick line); the only question will be margin of victory. Georgia controlled overmatched offenses pretty well without too much effort in their first two games, and this matchup will probably be on that level. Last weekend versus South Carolina, Georgia got off to a slow start but eventually found their rhythm in the second half. The Bulldogs weren’t great on third downs (5-of-13) but statistically there weren’t a ton of glaring mistakes. Georgia should be able to sharpen up this week and take care of business at home against UAB.
