Maryland Terrapins Betting Preview
The Terrapins got four straight wins to start off their 2025 campaign. Those came versus Florida Atlantic, Northern Illinois, Towson and Wisconsin in succession. Maryland would then fall versus Washington, Nebraska, UCLA and Indiana over the next four, however. In the 55-10 blowout defeat by the Hoosiers, the Terrapins had five turnovers, 11 first downs and a rough 3-of-12 success rate on third-down tries. The defense gave up 588 yards on the other side, including 367 rush yards, 28 first downs and 7-of-12 on third downs in the blowout loss.
Matched up against Rutgers last weekend, Maryland was within four points 21-17 by the end of the half. The Terrapins were outscored 14-3 the rest of the way however, resulting in a loss 35-20 in the end on the road. QB Malik Washington posted a 15-of-28 line for 98 yards, one score and one pick while also leading the rush on eight carries for 164 yards and a TD. Dorian Fleming caught four balls for 39 yards to top the team receiving and Kaleb Webb had one 21-yard TD catch in the defeat for the Terrapins.
Illinois Fighting Illini Betting Preview
Over on the Illinois side, they were looking good in their first three games with wins over Western Illinois, Duke and Western Michigan. The Illini were demolished by Indiana in game four, then beat USC and Purdue ahead of losses to Ohio State and Washington. In the road loss to the Huskies, the Illini gave up 449 yards total with 6.7 yards per play, 27 first downs and 9-of-12 on third-down tries. The offense mustered 337 yards on the other side with 22 first downs and 9-of-12 on third downs but also had two picks alongside eight team flags.
Illinois’ last appearance was on November 1 versus Rutgers. In that one the Illini scored 14 points in both the second and third quarters on the way to a 35-13 home win. Luke Altmyer finished 19-of-31 for 235 yards, four scores and a pick while also leading the rush on 88 yards and a score from seven totes. Illinois vs Maryland Prediction
I’ll lean toward Illinois here. The Illini have had a bit of time to rest and prepare for this one, and it should do them some good. Illinois didn’t have too many issues with Rutgers in their last outing, posting 445 yards, 210 rush yards, 26 first downs and 7-of-12 on third-down tries. The defense gave up a modest 312 yards to the Knights along with 6-of-16 on third downs and 19 first downs total. Illinois had given up a combined 76 points in their previous two games, so the 13 points allowed was certainly a welcome sight.
As for Maryland, they had a great day rushing (305 yards) but couldn’t do much else (98 pass yards) in their 15-point road loss to Rutgers. The Terrapins gained 7.1 yards per play but also went just 4-of-12 on third downs with 14 first downs total. The defense gave up 256 rushing yards on the other side, which didn’t help. Maryland is now mired in a five-game skid, and they haven’t cracked 20 points in any of the last three games. They’re going to have a tough time with the Illini on the road in this weekend’s matchup.
