The Sam Houston Bearkats and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs meet Friday in college football action from Joe Aillet Stadium. Here’s a Louisiana Tech vs Sam Houston prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Louisiana Tech vs Sam Houston pick.

Sam Houston Bearkats Betting Preview

It’s been a rough season for Sam Houston thus far—to put things mildly. The Bearkats are still looking for that elusive first victory of the year, falling versus Western Kentucky, UNLV, Hawaii, Texas, New Mexico State and Jacksonville State in their first half dozen outings. In the loss to the Gamecocks on October 9, Sam Houston held a 21-17 lead by the end of the third quarter. The Bearkats were outscored 12-6 from there however, resulting in a 29-27 defeat in the end at home. Sam Houston mustered 286 yards of offense with just 15 first downs and a 4-of-12 success rate on third-down conversions in the defeat.

In their latest outing versus UTEP on October 15, the Bearkats were within four points 21-17 by the end of the third quarter. Sam Houston was outscored 14-0 in the final frame however, giving the team another home loss 35-17. QB Hunter Watson finished 13-of-19 for 161 yards and a touchdown while Landan Brown added 13 carries for a respectable 110 yards rushing. Leading the receivers was Chris Reed with 51 yards on three catches in the loss.

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Betting Preview

Over on the LA Tech side, they opened up their season with a shutout home win 24-0 over Southeastern Louisiana. The Bulldogs would then fall against a tough LSU team in a road loss 23-7, but then beat New Mexico State, Southern Miss and UTEP in succession over the next three outings. LA Tech’s win streak was broken by Kennesaw State in a blowout on October 9, though. The Bulldogs defense gave up 400 yards in that one along with 6.3 yards per play, 22 first downs and a steady 9-of-14 clip on third-down conversions.

Matched up against Western Kentucky in a home game on October 21, the Bulldogs were in trouble with a 20-7 halftime deficit. Louisiana Tech scored 13 unanswered points in the second half and forced overtime, but ultimately lost 28-27 in a tough outcome. QB Blake Baker finished 31-of-45 for 340 yards, one TD and one interception while also leading the rush with 10 carries for 49 yards. Marlion Jackson was the leading team receiver with five catches for 76 yards in the one-point overtime home defeat.

Louisiana Tech vs Sam Houston Prediction

I’m probably leaning toward Louisiana Tech in this one but I’m also probably avoiding it. The Bulldogs are coming off a rough loss in overtime at home versus Western Kentucky, but they gave the Hilltoppers a game. LA Tech ended up with 449 total yards (340 passing), 24 first downs and a solid 10-of-19 on third-down tries but also committed nine total penalties for 80 yards in the one-point defeat. The good news is that it was a solid bounce-back effort after mustering just seven points in the blowout road loss to Kennesaw State.

As for Sam Houston, they’re still searching for that elusive win but it’s not for a lack of trying. The Bearkats did some things well in their loss to UTEP but ended up losing the handle in the fourth quarter. Sam Houston’s defense gave up 411 yards and 6.9 yards per play but also stood tall on third downs (3-of-11) and had a couple of takeaways. The Bearkats offense hasn’t been super consistent, though; they’ve been below 18 points in there of the last four outings while giving up 29 or more points in every game so far. The Bulldogs shouldn’t have trouble scoring here.
