The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and Georgia State Panthers meet Thursday night in week 10 Sun Belt college football action from Cajun Field in Lafayette, Louisiana. Georgia State is coming off a matchup versus Georgia Southern. In that game the Panthers won by a touchdown. As for the Cajuns, they played Texas State in their last outing. Louisiana ended up taking a blowout win there. Check back all season long for free college football picks at Sports Chat Place.
Georgia State lost four of their first five games this season. The Panthers beat Charlotte while otherwise falling to Army, North Carolina, Auburn and Appalachian State. Georgia State picked up wins in their next pair over LA-Monroe and Texas State, however.
In last weekend’s matchup against Georgia Southern, the Panthers scored 14 points in the final quarter to secure a 21-14 win. QB Darren Granger put up 141 yards on 16-of-27 passing, and Jamyest Williams had 97 rush yards and a TD. Tucker Gregg added 87 more rush yards and two touchdowns.
Over on the Cajuns’ side, they lost to Texas in their opener this year but then caught fire with a nice win streak afterward. Louisiana took out Nicholls State, Ohio, Georgia Southern, South Alabama, Appalachian State and Arkansas State in their next six.
In the Texas State game, Louisiana scored 17 points in the second and 18 more in the third on the way to a huge 45-0 shutout win. QB Levi Lewis put up 228 yards with three scores, and Chris Smith led the rush on 70 yards and a TD from nine carries.
The Panthers are 6-1 ATS in their last seven conference games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven road games. Georgia State is also 4-1 ATS versus a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, Louisiana is 4-1 ATS in their last five home games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven Thursday games. The Cajuns are are 2-7 ATS in their last nine after an ATS win as well.
PICK: I like Louisiana here. The Cajuns are on a nice roll and coming off a great performance. In the Texas State game, the Cajuns put up 425 yards of offense, 24 first downs and 6.0 yards per play. It was a clean game with just one penalty and no turnovers, but Louisiana could have been better on third downs (4-of-13).
As for Georgia State, they get credit for putting together a nice comeback win on Saturday. The Panthers put up 378 total yards of offense, but also gave up 486 yards on the other side. I don’t think Georgia State will be able to keep up here if Louisiana is on.
